Dixon hasn't gotten worse at coaching. The game is changing dramatically, and he's trying to fit players he recruited for the old Big East into the new ACC.

Dixon also hasn't gotten worse at recruiting (he's never been a barn-burner that could get nearly anyone he really really wanted)...his assistants have become less productive on the recruiting trail, for a variety of reasons.
