The Athletic is just fantastic and I know it is pay subscription but it is the best sports journalism right now. Great article on recruiting, really in depth interviews with anonymous (but they call out the associated league) assistant coached on a number of subjects. I love this exchange:
C-USA coach: The announcing of the kid’s top 12 finalists, and then they’re announcing their eight, and so on.
AAC coach: The friggin’ photo shoot. That’s brutal. It’s like playing dress-up or having a fashion show. You know how in “The Terminator” it’s about going back to stop something really bad from getting going? Whoever came up with this, I think a lot of coaches would like to see that guy get “offed.”

What’s the most recent annoying recruiting trend?
Pac-12 coach: Pushing the conference more than the school. That bothers the shit out of me, too. “We’re beating our chest, yeah, we’re Mississippi State.” Yeah, you’re average as f**k.
