Great win but we have one stat that ranks us dead last at 126.

We have allowed 100% of red zone appearances to score either a fg or td. But what is more odd is that there have only been 10 times this happens compared to 20-30 times for almost all teams. The one thing that tells me this is great is that when the other team has a chance to score, we throw the kitchen sink at them and if they score, well we did our best to make something happen instead of the bend and not break Pitt has played for 30 years. Narduzzi would say stats are for losers but forensically speaking, this really says something about his approach.

Not going for it at Iowa on 4th is going to go down as the best teaching moment of Narduzzi's career as confirmation to trust his gut and just do what he has done for a long time and don't look at the big picture that make many coaches conservative.

We continue to do things to make things happen and that's why things are different for Pitt. Keep pushing the gas coach because you will be forgiven when we get burned or stopped.

Basically what that tells us is we HAVE made stops in the red zone and have held the other team to field goals. The only way to stop another team from scoring is to either create a turnover or block the field goal attempt. Pitt teams of the past have not been able to do either. And that is because they have never been coached to do this and have never practiced it. Creating turnovers and blocking punts and field goals is something that has to be taught, schemed and practiced. Bend but break defenses usually don't create many turnovers, those come from aggressive and physical defenses. We have seen they are now able to block field goals and punts, but as to create turnovers, I believe that is coming. Narduzzi and Conklin are the types of coaches who aggressively create pressure on the offense that makes them turn the ball over. That is something Conklin did well when he was at FIU or where ever he came from. But that is also something that has to be taught and practiced, especially stripping the ball. It will happen in time. Narduzzi is a complete coach, not just a defensive mind. That is the difference between him and Chryst and Wannstedt. Chryst was an offensive mind, but that is all he cared about. And we saw how much Wannstedt cared about special teams. Narduzzi understands that all three phases of the game are equally important and from what I have seen, he emphasizes and practices all three.

We did not have a defensive interception until the third game of the season either. Let's see how the year end stats work out. This team is finding a way to win against teams that beat us over the past several years and doing it on the road. Can't ask for more in a coach's first year. After a few 10 win seasons, we would need to worry about this stat. 5-1 is all I need for now.

That said, we are being burned on the "big yardage play" like the pundits said is a tendency with this defensive scheme. With players arriving to better fit our scheme like Ford, I think the future is bright(er). Get the #412 momentum and I believe we could win the ACC with this coaching staff within four years.
