Greg Elliot Committs ....

He's "hated" because he has sucked. If he stops sucking, he will stop being hated on. It's pretty much that simple.

Yeah .... I have to agree with this. I think everyone wants some success here. Some just aren't very optimistic, and I still would have to include myself on this list. I still see a team that starts the ACC tournament on Tuesday.

Hating someone for not being able to win bb games is pretty sad !

If he was a total Ahole and won I guess you’d like him !

Keep in mind that he quoted "hated" meaning that's not his thought. I think what most are saying is that they really want Capel to be successful. I know I do. He just hasn't been.

I see this team as balanced (well, mostly). I can't quite make the leap to seeing it as talented, though. Here's to hoping.

Yeah, this team still isn’t any good unless we get GLF from one or two people. Pretty much replacing the same parts. The ACC projects to be much better next year too.

Capel has done MUCH better than any of us thought. Crazily enough, this can be his best team. In a glorified mid-major league (+Duke/UNC), this team has a chance

This is not true. This is right about exactly as I thought (and I think most thought). He brought in some fair players, but not really anyone to this point who looks like a significant difference maker.

But could it be his best team? Sure. But unfortunately, that's a pretty low bar. Could it be a team that gets into serious contention for an NCAA tournament berth? Well, my guess is that I don't see that talent additions for that level. But there is an overall increase in the talent level 1-11. We'll have to see if Capel can get the most out of it.

And the biggest problem I see is that I don't know from whom we can get a GLF. I think Big John can become a little more consistent if not necessarily any better. I think we already know what we are going to get from Nike (if he 100%) and Burton. I think Nelly has already leapt forward earlier in his career. Sure hope I'm wrong because I'm tired of sitting in any empty Pete watching lots of losses, but this is still a 10-11 place ACC team as I see it.

If Blake Hinson turns out to be Jimmy Chitwood we may have something.

If Hugley continues to improve and they get anything from 3 with a pg whose not a turnover machine , this will be his best team by far .

The wildcard to me is the twins , if they come in and play effectively on the perimeter that can be a game changer .

DT--
If you're not optimistic about next year, nobody can be.
Sigh!

I mean, if Hugley, Cummings, Burton and Sibande can all average 10+, that's a solid start. Probably still lower 1/3 of the ACC, but Pitt needs to score more than 60+ PPG. Trying to be positive here, so holding out hope, this roster will surprise us.

I wouldn't say that's true. I think I've always been pretty realistic with my expectations. And sometimes I even shot too low. For example, I NEVER saw that 2009-2010 as a group that could earn a 3 seed. (When Jermaine Dixon's injury was announced, I predicted they would not make the NCAA tournament) Another goodie from back in the day is when I looked at the team after the 2005 season as an 11th or 12th place Big East team (without Carl Krauser who was going to go pro). When Krauser returned, and Gray became the league's most improved player, that team became a 5 seed.

So some may have seen me as the huge optimist because I fought against the negativity surrounding the program in Dixon's final 4 seasons. I just never though teams that make the NCAA tournament as quite as bad as folks portrayed them to be. But I was very positive during 2001-2016 because making the NCAA tournament 13 out of 15 years is CERTAINLY something to be positive about.,

This is fair enough.

I hope you yinzers realize that this is a "Welcome" thread for a new recruit, and you are all using it to write up the team's poor prognosis and premature obituary. It's a wonder anybody would come to Pitt if they read this Board. Why couldn't you at least have started a new thread? You can blame Capel elsewhere, too.

Agree about the GLF need.

Assuming Hugley, Burton, Jeffress and Santos all improve at some level for being a year older.

The roster questions should include:

Is Sr. Cummings better than So. Femi? Probably

Are Elliott & Sibande better than (a mostly missing) Horton and Ezeakudo? Probably

Are Federiko/twins better than Collier/Oladopo/Payton? Probably

Can Hinson replace Gueye's production? This is the toughest call because of health but probably the most important one of he ends up the 3/4.

Realistically they need another player at the 4 if the twins are not ready to contribute.
