Why I just don't like college football anymore .

What happened to the “integrity” of the process? He’s not in the portal, so there can’t be an offer, right?

See: Addison, Jordan, and Riley, Lincoln.
I think the powers that be know how this works better than most. But the money people at each school are the ones that keep the big train rolling so if some nonsense must happen to keep it rolling, let it happen and punish a small guy every once in a while to keep up appearances.

Hey, I don't come on here and insult others just for stating a well founded opinion. And I'm not on the college football board all that much because of the state of college football and the mess. I'd appreciate if you'd keep your insults to yourself. I've been a Pitt fan for pretty long and I've suffered through the 50's and 60's. Take it somewhere else, Paco.

And it's not good if it's someone else's money. We pay the money with the cost of the tickets that are so outlandishly priced. Paying into these NIL funds is not a good thing for college sports. Pay the players from other sources of funds that colleges have, and there are many.

Besides, I'm on a fixed income and I don't have the money to waste on paying into NIL funds. Other priorities, Paco. I know you may not understand that, but when people are my age, funds are limited and earmarked to important things...like bills, my health, vacations with my wife, my hobbies. Pitt sports isn't a priority now.
Dude. Dontcha know if you don’t give your hard earned cash away to 18 year olds so your sportsball team can win a few games you have no right to criticize.

This is foolishness and immaturity. The Pitt football program is being torched quite well without my help. I never did that. In fact, I'm sure I've donated more to Pitt football over the years than many. For you to arrogantly come on here with your high and mighty attitude as you do quite often is amusing.
LMFAO. As I said, no self awareness. Door...ass. But I know you can't help yourself.

Hey . Guess I'm old school .. I liked dedication to a school that recruited them .
Now these kids couldn't give 2 $hits ...
Addison at least mentions both Pitt and USC on national games. If he lists both in Super Bowl, so be it.

That's exactly right. If you don't participate, then the criticisms are completely empty.
That is so far from the truth. I used to be a Pirates season ticket owner. Now I don't even buy 1 ticket. All the people who no longer buy or go to games are speaking loud.

In regards to Pitt, there are many ways to support them without donating to NIL. For you to disregard that, is ignorance to try and prove your point.

You said it, Mike. Ignorance is bliss when it comes to this character Paco.

I'm done wasting my time with this silliness and childishness. You have zero idea of what you're talking about. And please quit the bullsh%$ about self-awareness. You seem to be acutely demonstrating that yourself. You are the least self-aware person on this board. Run along now.

You want to spend 300 million dollars for a cheap on-campus stadium to play Marshall, Temple, Buffalo, etc…. 😂

Here’s a better idea. Spread that 300 million dollars out over a 20 year span and use it towards landing the best players possible while playing big boy football.

Or better yet, spend it on improving the education of students who are paying to attend Pitt. That's why Pitt exists.

I think we Pitt fans (and other fans across the country) need to hang in there for a few more years.

In my opinion, we’re going to get some much-needed guardrails, because the current operation is unsustainable. I’m talking CBA, structured contracts and salaries, new rules for player transfers, etc. There will likely be some “growing pains,” especially with other programs in the athletic department.

There has to be a compromise between what we have now and how we operated previously. For example, I can envision a future where players sign a four-year “base” contract (paid for by the school via athletic department revenue) with personal incentives (paid for by NIL collectives). After four years, there could include school and/or player options. Bigger schools can also “buy out” a student athlete’s contract, similar to soccer; this means the student athletes can transfer whenever they’d like, but there have to be buyers out there for them.

Honestly, European football is a pretty good comparison for where I think this is headed… the “blue bloods” and teams with more money and resources will win like they always have, but it won’t be the “wild west” that we have right now.

I've chosen to just root for other teams, since Pitt ain't it these days. I put all 134 teams on a map on my wall, blindfolded myself, and threw five darts at it. Looks like my new teams are Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, and Michigan.

Don't know much about any of them, so I just hope my teams don't stink!
This is exactly what ESPN and FOX want and believe will happen once they squeeze out the G5, ACC, and Big 12.

We all knew this would happen but .. Well welcome to the new world ... SMH ...

Ewers would be stupid to go "pro" and leave $6 million on the table to be a college kid one more year. He may not make that much in the NFL depending on where he's drafted. I heard its Oregon with the offer. I dont know why Portnoy is paying that HS kid $10 million when he probably wont be very good next year when he could have bought Ewers.

Duke paying $4 million for that Tulane QB was pretty shocking to me since its Duke and I never heard of the Tulane kid.

Yeah, I think they look at it like this:

NFL TV money - about $10B

Big Ten/SEC - about $1B each

Ground to cover - $8B

And more appealing matchups is the way to close the gap, in their opinion.

Insane. Hate to make this semi political but we have all kinds of problems in this country and people who need help. (See NC where people are still homeless fro Helene)

It’s a free country and people with FU money can spend it any way they want but I find it disgusting that people are throwing many at 18 year olds so their sports ball team
Will win

We need more people like this

Any chance we can get these Amish to build an on campus stadium for us? If so, I'd be an advocate for selling chicken and turkey dinners at the concession stands.

I wouldn't draft Ewers before the 5th round. He's got kick-around career NFL backup stamped on his forehead. Same with Carson Beck, Milroe, Will Howard, Allar etc. Those guys just don't have "it" IMO.

Cam Ward, Sheduer, Nussmeier, up there. I think Dillon Gabriel is intriguing, he's a guts guy, strong leader, has some talent and just makes plays. Kyle McCord, Jaxson Dart, I can see them in the NFL, not as high picks.

Not as high on Sanders. I think it would be a mistake to take him in the early to mid first round. I do like Ward a lot.

Qb is such a crap shoot in terms of all the intangibles needed to succeed at the NFL level. While you surely need physical tools, without the intangibles (that are hard to assess at the college level) those tools are meaningless. Sanders is physically gifted as a Qb but Im not sold on his ability to read defenses, and find receivers who are covered much closer at the nfl level. We'll find out.

I agree with Dart. I think he could be very good but wouldnt waste a first round pick on him.

I understand this is possible.

But leaving the ACC (and to a lesser degree the defunct Pac 12) behind leaves millions of TV sets in NFL cities with the anticipation that those TVs will be tuned in to Texas Alabama or Michigan-Oregon

But I think a large number of fans (myself included) will view CFB as minor league football.

And for the millions that live in NFL markets, im not sure they will watch minor league ball as much as projected.

I live in an NFL market and really dont care unless Pitt is a player.

I'll be interested to see how many of the "whales" at many of these schools, especially the blue bloods, continue to support 7 figure
price tags for players without "results" on the field. Looking at the final 4 of the CFP, I can see rampant criticism of whichever
of Franklin, Day, or Sarkesian doesn't win it all in the next two weeks. Look at OSU fans after the Michigan loss, PSU after OSU, etc.

You are right. Without serious reform, it is unsustainable. We know the amounts needed yearly will grow, just like coach salaries. For the small fry donors, let's do a little math. 10,000 donors @ $500 yearly contribution is $5 million, or the price of maybe one coveted player. The numbers I used are stretch goals for a program like Pitt and not attainable, IMO. So you either bend over every time schools pass the basket or push back and say enough is enough. I choose the latter.

What do you think was going on in the 70’s and 80’s with the Golden Panthers? What about the whole SWC and everywhere else?
But at least you didn't have unlimited instant transferring, no free agency kept the prices down.
