meaning WTAE locally. Raycom only syndicates to OTA stations so if you dont live in Pittsburgh, check the ACC site for the list of stations. Our out of town DirecTV friends won't be happy these next 2 weeks because they have a hard time getting these syndicated games.

I'm near Pittsburgh with DirecTV. I will be fine then? I'm hoping it's not like the hoops games on MyTV. I was unable to watch those other than on ESPN3.

There are tons of local TV channels that will be carrying these games for DirecTv subscribers.

On WRAL ch. 5 in Raleigh, NC for me as an example.

Even with just ESPN3, I never miss a game on my big screen TV. A couple of wires, wi-fi - a tablet or phone - a ROKU or Chromecast and viola...

It's really zero problem.

So it gets blacked out on ESPN3 in Pittsburgh when playing in Virginia, but on WTAE when playing at Heinz?

Wow. I don't get it. We used to be automatics for ESPN and their family. Have we fallen that much? Is our ratings that poor? And it definitely doesn't help our opponents tanking.

As odd as it is, it seems to me the old Big East got more coverage than the ACC now does.

FSU and Clemson get great coverage. ABC, ESPN, or ESPN2 every week. The rest get similar coverage to the old BE. Syndication or ESPNU. ACC has nobody to blame but themselves. No reason the league couldnt have a few teams rise up like in the B12 and P12. TCU, Baylor, Stanford, really???

Agreed. That's more what I'm saying, it's the ACC as a conference that doesn't handle the television rights as a whole very well.

Yes, but the league has also sucked (outside of Clemson and FSU for forever. If TCU and Baylor can do it, so can Pitt, NCSU, UNC, etc.

NC State may take a while. I think Pitt and UNC are due for a coming out party this year though. Although everything's a party at UNC when you don't have to go to class the next day, or ever really.

The issue for DirecTV'ers is when its on an obscure over-the-air station like it is in Philly. DirecTV does not pick up the obscure OTA stations. In Pittsburgh we're fine but in other areas, DirecTV folks wont get the game.

Yes, now I did see it will be on ACC Network. Which means WTAE in Pittsburgh, which DirecTV obviously does carry in the Pittsburgh area. I don't care what channel the game is on, but the day a Pitt game against a P5 team is not televised on DirecTV in the Pgh area, I will have a huge problem.
Doubt that will ever happen, but was thinking maybe Comcast for one reason and wondering if anyone had any feedback? Is the Pitt Panthers TV network still a channel and how is it?

SMF, you're wrong, DirecTV people outside Pittsburgh CAN get the game. It will be on the Sports Extra channels associated with the DirecTV Sports Pack (ch 788-798). Here in Central California I watched the VT game there last week and the UVA game will be on there also. Here is a link to prove that http://www.lsufootball.net/tvschedule.htm Sports Pack costs $13.99/month and if you go to DirecTV online and subscribe to it, you can get it for $12/month.

I am outside of PA and was able to find the game on Ch 788 (ESPN Extra Channel) as mentioned above. First I've ever seen this. Watch ESPN is available as well.

This is true if you have the sports pack, but last week the quality (here in Chicago) was really poor on the extra channel. Like directv plugged a laptop into their feed...very choppy like it was buffering.

I had to switch to the Apple TV for the second half, which was a perfectly smooth feed. I think I'll start with apple this time around

These syndicated games are the same as if you had the BTN or PacNet. Especially the PACnet as it is based on a regional basis.

The top teams will play on ESPN and ESPN2. So if you want to see more Pitt on those 2 channels, we need to get better.

But the sports pack doesn't always work. Here are two examples. In Harrisburg the Whtm picks up the syndicated games on a sub channel. Direct TV doesn't carry that channel. Since Whtm own the broadcast rights in Pittsburgh it is blacked out on espn3 and the rsn like root sports on direct tv. Another example is Comcast sportsnet on philly. That channel is not available on direct tv. However because they own the rights for philly area it blacked out on root sports ect. This is not just a ACC issue. It also a NHL and MLB problem. During hockey season it a major issue when the Pens play the Flyers. Harrisburg is a flyers market so the game is shown on Comcast sportsnet and blacked out on root sports. All other games can be watched on root sports. It is no big deal for cable people because the get Comcast sportsnet.

Sports Extra (ch 788-798) comes with the Sports Pack and lists the games they will carry on your online programming guide--if the game is listed, you'll see it, if the game isn't listed, you won't see it. Very simple, I'm talking about the Sports Extra, not other networks/channels.

Yes, I dont believe the DirecTV Sports Pack thing works for the Raycom games because those are syndicated to OTAs and not RSNs. Its why you could see VT last week but maybe not UVa or GT. We'll see.

The ACC is getting very interesting. I think in August it was pretty clear Georgia Tech was our toughest conference game, and we needed to win to have a chance to make it to Charlotte. Now it's looking like we need to beat Georgia Tech just to have a chance to beat UNC to get to Charlotte. The division is open and I know Narduzzi is hungry for it and the players will take after him.

H2P!!!

SMF, Forget the Sports Pack and that working, maybe it won't--but The Sports EXTRA channels (ch 788-798) is what I'm talking about and it WILL show the game, it is on their schedule. They are 2 completely different animals.

Untrue SMF, Virginia at Pitt will be live on DirecTV channel 789 at 12:30 ET Saturday, that channel is part of the ESPN Sports Extra, which is part of the DirecTV sports pack. Don't think it will be available live on any other DirecTV channels, so pay your $12/month to subscribe and watch the game. Most likely the same experience next week for the Pitt at GT game.
