This is nothing new but needs to be brought up again. It really comes down to guard play. While NC St's guards were scoring, Pitt's guards were not. The majority of Pitt's points this season came from Artis and Young (sometimes Wright and Jeter). This won Pitt some games this year, but this is opposite of what the college game is about and you won't win many games without your guards scoring points.
When did Pitt look best this year? When Wright, Jones, Robinson and Newkirk were scoring. When this happens it makes Artis' and Young's and Jeter's Contributions enormous and moves Pitt from an average team to a very good team.
Again, nothing new but I think this brings things into better perspective as we try to explain the disappointing ending to the season.
