Guy must be on drugs.......PItt is not a great job

Of course it would be a good job to someone fired by Duquesne. Ron Everhart? Why would anybody take what he says into account?

If this truly was a really good job, Will Wade, Danny Hurley, or a current high major coach would've already accepted the position.

This might sound crazy, but I would take a look at everhart over a lot of candidates in the list.

Duquesne was really dumb to fire him.

I don't know all the details but there were some behind the scenes type issues with him.

And I wouldn't want him regardless but to each his own.

What were the issues that you know of.

I never really paid close attention, but found what he did at Duquesne impressive. That truly is one if the hardest places in the country to win.

Uh, not if it hasn't been offered to any of them. Pitt can attract a quality coach.

I honestly don't know. I was just told there were some problems and it just became untenable. However given the top 2 admins at Duquesne (who either left or will be soon) I wouldn't necessarily put it all on Everhart.

Whatever the reasons he were let go were not related to their record or on court performance. That's pretty much the extent of what I was told.

or so weve been told by the Jamie DIxon er a "Pitt Fans" on this site

Every head coaching position looks good to an assistant who has been fired, particularly from a lower job.

I don't agree that Everhart is someone Pitt should consider. I think the fanbase would be up in arms if he were the choice.

One more thing we should maybe consider is the writer. Has John Harris written a positive article on Pitt this year? He's as negative on Pitt basketball as the PG tools are on football. His last article on this situation was giving John Miller a forum to take a slap at Pitt. I thought Harris just disliked Dixon. Maybe the dislike is deeper. Does anyone know his background? Is he a Nitter or anther Cuse grad?

His LinkedIn profile states he's a Mansfield grad.

You don't wait a week to offer the job to someone like Will Wade. If you know he's interested, you work out a deal in a day or two.

Scott Barnes has talked pretty big, the eventual hire will likely feel like a letdown if it's one of the candidates that have been tossed around the past few days. Shouldn't be a shock to most, as quite a few people over the past few years have said...you want Dixon out, fine, who is coming here to replace him?

-Considering you have no idea who the Top candidate is, this statement couldnt be more false. If the Top choice is Keatts, everyone is going to sit on hold until the background search is fully completed with Louisville. No need to rush when you make sure you are going after your top guy. And Danny Hurley is not a good coach.

There are channels of communication and I'm sure Barnes is in the loop. Not every search is the same. Sometimes you can afford to sit tight and evaluate things a little longer. I don't know that Will Wade is sitting on a ton of offers right now and that a move for him is imminent.

Yep. Especially the last sentence. This was my fear if Dixon ever left.

And btw, I don't want everhart, but given the list of candidates I would consider him better than some of those.

The fact that Kevin Keatts might be the number 1 choice for the job says a ton about the job and the search in particular.

Virginia job opened, they got a Pac 10 guy.
Miami job opened, they got a coach who went to the Final Four, and recently won other tournament games.
VT opened, the got a Big East guy who recently went to Elite 8.
NC State opened, they get the coach from Alabama who had been to an Elite 8.
Georgia Tech opened, they got an Atlantic Ten guy.

Pitt is searching the Horizon and the Colonial, maybe the Sun Belt, maybe a weakened Conference USA.

-Did you even listen to the Decourcy interview I posted yesterday? Before you post again, listen to it.

First off any job paying you millions of dollars is a great job. Second any job paying you millions of dollars to coach or play a game is better than a great job. Is it the best job in this field no but don't worry they'll find someone to take this shity job. Remember no one heard of their last two coaches.

I don't care what Decourey has to say about Keatts. If Pitt was the job many believe it to be, based on pther recent hires in the ACC, the names in realistic discussion wouldn't be Drew, Keatts, Hurley, Beard, Turner... they'd be Gregg Marshall, Billy Kennedy, Cuonzo Martin, Chris Mack, etc.

Cuonzo and Kennedy are at the helm of P5 programs comparable to Pitt, so I'm not sure why they would leave. Marshall and Mack are at the helm of programs that are mid-major in name only...they can make big bucks and have an easier road to the tourney each year in their respective conferences. They probably won't come here for the same reasons Brad Stevens wasn't leaving Butler for anything aside from probably Duke or the NBA.

-If he had listened to the interview, he would of understood that.

"Everhart, who rebuilt his career following his dismissal from Duquesne four years ago, said he isn't a candidate for the Pitt job and that Pitt hasn't reached to him. But that doesn't mean he wouldn't be interested."

Everhart would walk from Morgantown to Pittsburgh for an interview. Thankfully we are aiming a little higher.

And I'd walk there and make sure I give him a Stan Hansen clothesline wherever we meet to make sure he doesn't make it past Southpointe.

Sheesh. I never expected a "splash hire". But never in a million years would I have thought anyone would think this jobber would be worth a look.

Like I said, I wouldn't be thrilled, but given some of the names being put out there I don't think he is any worse, and I'd say he has proven more than a guy like wade.

Oh, and he recruited tj McConnell. That should make him the number one candidate for half the board.

Who is Will Wade? I mean honestly? You give Pitt ZERO credit. None. We don't need to pounce on a coach with 1 year of marginal success, who, I might add, came into HC position with an already strong program. Dude, have some confidence. Are you like this with everything in your life. Just bowing down and begging, taking the first thing that is offered to you?

People need to settle down. Stop crapping your pants.

Pitt seems to be combing the Horizon, Colonial, Sun Belt, & maybe the Atlantic Sun for a coach. Meanwhile other ACC programs hired from Pac 10, SEC, Big East, Atlantic Ten, etc.

The up tempo great recruiting mandate seems to point to Ralph Willard part two. Just hire a good basketball coach, don't try to hire a style.
