Does anyone think that Hamlin and Ford actually may be better if they switched positions? I think both are good safetys but Paris’ additional athleticism and ball skills may make him a better FS. I think Paris has done well at SS, but I also think Hamlin could make plays closer to the line of scrimmage as well. Hamlin seems to be intelligent and tackles pretty well.
I just get nervous when the other team has a wideout with elite speed because Hamlin does not match up well on deep routes against elite speed. I think Pitt may gain some additional ball skills with Paris at FS and lose very little in the box with Damar if they switched. Not that Paris can’t get beat deep, but I think he has an extra gear to try and make up ground when beat.
Obviously I don’t watch them everyday at practice and I don’t know the details of the defense. Maybe SS has less calls and reads so they feel more comfortable with Damar at FS and letting Paris just line up and make plays? I believe Whitehead also played SS early in his career. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Paris playing FS next season once Hamlin graduates though.
Although I think maybe they would be better off switching positions I don’t actually think the coaches will even consider switching them. Just curious if anyone else has an opinion or thoughts on it.
I really don’t like a Hamler on Hamlin matchup for this weekend. I don’t think Damar has the speed or quickness to match up in that scenario. He may be more consistent in his knowledge and more disciplined, but I believe they may exploit him in pass coverage. I guess we will see on Saturday. Hail to Pitt!
