Pgh Sports Now also reporting Coleman could be a candidate to burn the redshirt...has good size. I know they are true freshman and might not know what they are doing, but if Narduzzi continues to play press man, let the big athletic kids play. Obviously Lewis and smurf Maddox aren't getting it done.

with him missing so much time, would be pretty surprised if he played this weekend. I can see Coleman getting minutes this weekend.

good news on both fronts. We need CB help ASAP. Must mean Coleman is looking pretty good too.

We need someone to take Webb's spot stat as well. He is a punching bag back there in coverage. FS is a harder position than CB from an Xs and Os standpoint, tough for a true freshman to make all the reads and be where he;s supposed to be.

I called this a few days ago as well

If Coleman burns his redshirt, I seriously have to doubt Narduzzi's judgement. If the kid is ready now, he was ready against OSU or UNC because the guys we were playing were abysmal. He hasn't figured it all out the last 3 days. He could not have been any worse.

Give it a rest. How do u know it wasn't more a matter of him understanding the playbook and practicing well?

There is nothing to "give a rest". I am sure that had a ton to do with it, but I have watched the last 3 games with our CBs being absolutely terrible. Not struggling, but literally the (2nd) worst in the country. They have essentially 0 ability AND weren't communicating or executing properly. We couldn't have been worse if there was someone with ability, but still struggling with those other two things.

Better late than never, but it really makes me question what he has been thinking, at least, the last two weeks.

I knew this from prior practices but Duzz asked me to keep it a secret. Hamlin will start.

Dude......I ordered mushrooms and pepperoni and you brought me straight anchovies. ...

I'm guessing the narduzzi family is enjoying my pie......

Did he tip you well....or just tell you hamlin is back,

This would be great news. Obvious to any football fan that Lewis is not getting it done, he was one of the worst rated out CB in all of football last week. He had his moment in the sun vs UPS. Will always be remembered in Pitt folklore, but if we have someone else that has a chance to be better, after that last game, we need to see it.

I think Maddox is decent at covering, just makes far too many bad decisions, and doesnt get his head turned around. He is next one deserving a seat if we have someone to take his place. Hate burning redshirts, but if there is a case to do it, THIS IS IT

Yes. This is what the coaches were saying was his issue last year and that they now expect him to step up and make plays this year.

Nope this year he still lets his receiver get behind him on deep routes. Still doesn't get head turned around. Still too reacting with his hands. Still can't jump high enough with the taller receivers. Still making all of the receivers he covers look like Heisman candidates.

The poor kid can't break up a pass and yet the coaches are proud to call him the best corner on the team because he can stay with his receiver.
It's not like you can't teach a DB when to turn their head. The fact that Maddox doesn't do it, makes one wondering what's going on in practice.

^^^^ Aka L. Pitts. I dont think he ever turned to track the ball in 4 years. Must be something in the practice facility water.

Aside from A. Berry & K. Williams, have we had a decent corner in the last 7 years who could cover someone?

Gee how are we going to sleep at night knowing that one of the most negative posters on this board doubt's the Head Coach's judgement? How are we to go on?

Hoping Hamlin, Coleman and Garner are taking snaps away from Lewis, Jackson, Motley, Briggs, Webb and Mitchell this weekend.

I will say that the next time Terrish Webb takes the correct pursuit angle will be the first time it happens.

I'm not negative at all. You, however, are a terrible homer, who constantly has a Pitt sack in his mouth.

OMG YOU ARE SO NEGATIVE!!! HOW DARE YOU QUESTION THE PURSUIT ANGLES HCPN TAUGHT TERRISH WEBB!!!1! DO YOU THINK YOU KNOW MORE THAN THE COACHES?!?!

You apparently also lack self-awareness. Yep, I'm a Pitt fan who looks at things with a glass half full perspective. I'm also willing to offer negative assessment periodically, however there are several posters who do it on a continual basis and act as if they are more knowledgeable than the coaching staff. It's tiresome

Hah. I never act more knowledgeable than the coaching staff, but I am not afraid to say I don't understand or disagree with something they have done. Not playing some of these guys vs. UNC (after PSU and OSU) and now apparently being ready to play them against Marshall is worrisome for me, as someone who believes/believed HCPN could be a very good coach and great fit at Pitt.

We have 2/3rds of the season left, including 7 conference games left. You play Hamlin and coleman, if they are healthy, and don't even give the redshirt concern one second of thought. I could care less about 2020, I care about 2016.

To keep throwing Maddox and the other guy out there, to continue this failure just to save eligibility for 2020 is beyond idiotic..

To be honest. You'll hear a whole lot more positive posts when Pitt finally starts winning games like the last 2 weeks. Instead of always finding ways to lose them.

I Can't wait till the day Pitt becomes relevant in today's college football. It will be a pleasure to read nothing but great things. Until then. People have a right to be negative.

I mean its only been 35 years since we were talked about around the country. As a program that made some noise

I will say that the next time Terrish Webb takes the correct pursuit angle will be the first time it happens.

It was so frustrating on Saturday as he would make a great read come up on Switzer and take a terrible angle. The 1st TD for UNC was caused by this as he came flying up and allowed Switzer to take a screen 2 yards behind the LOS for 60+ yards. IT happened at least 3 times I can remember and on a 4th time he actually slowed him up enough to where Maddox (I think) was able to come up and force Switzer out of bounds.

The crazy thing he made the right read on the play came up aggressively but then he over pursued, took bad angles and just came up out of control instead of breaking down in a good tackling position to make the stop. He has to make the stop there, especially on Switzer, and instead of the bone jarring 3 yard loss, make the proper play and keep it to a 2 yard gain. Instead he allowed 15 plus yards to occur multiple times.

People were negative when Jackie was the coach. Pitt fans set unrealistic expectations and many of them look for excuses not to support the program.

Its ridiculous to find it "worrisome" that freshman would not see the field for the first four weeks and then begin to get playing time in week 5 or so.
They're freshman. They were in HS a few months ago. For the first game of the season, they'd been coached by Pitt's staff for less than a month. Its rare that a kid is ready to play at all in game 1 as a freshman. By week 5, the time that they've been in the program and been coached by college coaches has literally doubled from week 1. The growth over that time in knowledge of the playbook, assignments, body positioning, and many basic fundamentals can be tremendous for a kid who is physically and mentally mature.
It is not surprising at all to see freshman slowly worked onto the field. My guess is that their gettin on the field in week 5 (assuming they get it) is based on a combination of their increased readiness, and the poor play of the veterans. I'm sure PN would rather not play most of them at all this year (he's said so in the past), but his hand is being forced by the poor results of the guys who are playing now, and he is going to do something he'd rather not do. And I think the time the freshman get will be limited at first; and will increase over time.

Agreed. Furthermore, the coaches now have a much better feel for the new players, and those players they may be replacing. It's possible that the coaching staff didn't know exactly what they had in players like Lewis, who really hadn't played significant minutes on defense since arriving on campus. The coaches likely feel the freshman can better compliment players like Whitehead in the defensive secondary than the guys who have seen the most significant playing time up until this point, and are ready to give them an opportunity.

The reasons for Hamlin's absence have been chalked up to injury, or he likely would have seen significant playing time already this year. Coleman and Garner likely had to show the coaches they can be trusted in a defense that puts an incredible amount of stress on its secondary to make plays. Trusting anyone, let alone freshman, to step right in and take on that challenge is a tall order.

No, no, no. I am not worried about the kids. I am worried our coaches didn't think they were ready on Saturday, but they are Tuesday, while watching our CBs be the worst I have ever seen. I am worried weeks 2 and 3 were watched and week 4 they weren't even remotely an option to step in when our CBs were horrible. Talent isn't going to immediately make them good or even better, but the job we were getting the last 3 weeks was unbelievably terrible. I was ok with it being that those FR were either hurt or completely unprepared to contribute, but that much didn't change in 3 days and we had many mental mistakes to go with lack of ability for the guys on the field, who were never taken out.

Fans are the same everywhere. Except at Penn st.
Christ. Look at LSU fans. Georgia fans. ND fans. All fan bases who want or wanted their coaches fired. Programs that have delivered much more wins than Pitt has.

Pitt is extremely lucky to have the 30000 die hard fans it does. After how this program has been run for the last 3 decades.

Give it a rest... Narduzzi's been coaching for 25 years. He's been part of staffs that have won conference titles. He's also been an award winning assistant coach. He's got a long way to go before I start questioning his judgment...

Lighten up Francis...

Sorry, that doesn't mean he doesn't make mistakes and poor judgments. So does Saban.

You can form your own opinions, disagree with the coach, and still be a fan. You can even still love/like/be lukewarm to the coach despite a disagreement. Good luck with that in the future.

I was around for the Jackie Sherrill run of 33-3 from 1979 to 1981. Even then I was amazed how people would bitch because we lost one game to a really good team. Fans are so spoiled. Used to bitch that Jackie could not win the big one. That is fact not opinion. I was there most of these snot nosed poseurs were not.

Agreed. However, needless negativity just brings out the low IQ trolls... I am promoting patience. I believe Narduzzi is the right guy for the job.

I would've done the exact same thing Narduzzi did. You want to preserve as many red shirts as possible. It's clear after the last two weeks, that Narduzzi is going to have to burn a couple of red shirts. He knows it as well. So he's acting accordingly...

Yup... He was criticized for not winning a big game the first two years at Pitt.

I haven't been negative. I have said I find it worrisome he watched the PSU game and didn't make these adjustments. I find it worrisome he did the same during and after OSU. Then did the same during UNC. The past game very likely cost us a chance at a divisional title and we just needed 1 play to win it. However, we kept running out the same tandem, who were atrocious.
