Has playing off-campus helped Pitt football?

Acrisure is great. Beautiful stadium. However the atmosphere is terrible for Pitt games. Even the “bigger” games have a terrible atmosphere. I went to the Clemson game in 2021 and the atmosphere was meh. There is also no tradition at Acrisure. VT has Metallica, Clemson has the hill entrance, FSU has the chop, the Nitters have the we are chant, etc. Pitt at Acrisure has nothing (ok maybe Sweet Caroline but every school sings this and half of the stadium is gone by the time Pitt plays it) A smaller stadium on campus would greatly help with providing a better atmosphere. Also coming up with new traditions to get the fans/alumni more connected to the university would help. Acrisure feels too corporate for a college game.

Are they amazing empty ?
Nope
Sit down

Pitt stadium sucked for atmosphere
Yeah…they take those kids to those empty stadiums, run videos, show them the traditions, and walk them into million dollars locker rooms. Some of you cats wouldn’t know being recruited if it bit you in ate arse. Psst…Pitt uses the Pete as a recruiting tool for every player we target.

I thought so…nothing quantitative. Was that too big of a word for you. I’ll break it down…by what DATA?

Are you really dumb enough to think that people have the DATA for how much in would have cost to renovate a stadium from 30 years ago?

How about this. Show us the DATA that shows how it would have been economically feasible, and show us the plans to upgrade Pitt Stadium to a first class facility.

Don't worry, seeing as to how no such data or plans exists, not now and not 30 years ago, none of us will hold our breath waiting.

If you were around back then and you were a Pitt fan and you were paying any attention at all you would know the kinds of money problems that Pitt had back then, and not just with athletics. Just because you WISH something was true doesn't mean that it was true. And just because you apparently weren't paying any attention to what was going on back then doesn't mean that no one was paying attention.

But like I said, common sense, not a strong suit for you.

We’ll don’t make it a part of your justification! If you can’t validate or verify…don’t bring it up!

I’ll keep saying this until it sinks in for those who think with their hearts and not with their heads.

*Pitt IS NOT a land grant university with huge alumni.

*It is not in the Big Ten or SEC Conference making large sums of money.

*Yes, USF is building an on campus stadium. However the distance from the stadium to the campus is much further than Pitt’s current situation. In addition building a new stadium will NOT get them in a power conference as they might think.

*There is no place to put it near the campus. PERIOD.

*Besides students, Pitt depends on the casual fan to attend games. Making it more difficult to get fans to games in Oakland hurts Pitt, not help it.

*Once again, Alliance 412 barely made the 1 million dollar goal. How are they going to raise 100-300 million to build a stadium. Unless you want to pass on that cost to the students tuition for 6 games per year.

*In the meantime, Pitt needs to retain/hire better coaches and build their NIL opportunities. That takes A LOT of cash. Pitt is not equipped to do both. Accept that reality.

The same posters pining for an on campus stadium won’t accept reality no matter what evidence you show them. They would rather spend money that Pitt doesn’t have, contribute nothing to the cause, build the stadium in an imaginary place and forsake what really builds a winner (coaches & players).

Where do some of you come up with this stuff? The team walks thru a crowd on it's way into the stadium? Where could this possibly occur in Oakland? Would they close Forbes Ave. on game day? In fact, where would any tailgating take place? Acrisure too corporate? What does that mean? Too many luxury boxes? That is where the money is made in a stadium. Too much advertising (signage)? Again, money! Too much development around the stadium? What in the hell does Oakland look like?
I have the perfect plan for some of you. I'm sure that Pitt's scientists and engineers can build a stadium on a cloud that will float over Oakland on game day and can be moved to the county airport when not in use. Circle of Excellence members can have the stadium drop by their house and pick them up (within a 50 mile radius). Imagine the thrill for recruits when they can look out of the stadium DOWN at the Goodyear blimp.

Put just a tenth of the half a billion that it would take to build a new stadium in Pittsburgh and put it into NIL...then you have a much better shot at a natty.

Heck, put that 1/2 billion into an endowment for Alliance 412, and you'd be churning out natty level NIL payments every year.

College players are professionals now. Bells and whistles mean a lot less now than straight up $$.

You want a project to get behind that might really make a difference, start an endowed NIL fund.
Yeah, I think this is the best answer.

That's just dumb. Par for the course though.

You can't use DATA to justify how Pitt could have come up with the money to renovate Pitt Stadium into a first class facility, so since you can't validate or verify your position, don't bring it up.

See how that works.

Maybe just trust that apparently there are quite a few people here who paid more attention than you and know things that you don't. Or continue to spout nonsense. Your call.

Folks seem to forget that UPMC is far more important and expanding through
Oakland -
New surgical tower and new Cardiac and Transplanr hospitals

But sure let’s pretend pitt stadium being fully renovated somehow is better , so they can practice - I don’t know - in the basement of Pitt stadium .

And the crowds and revenues could be substantially worse

You sound like you went to West Virginia - you can't use data to justify a point you're trying to justify. Go brush your tooth!

Pitt = Washington State but plays in a rented stadium.

Pitt hired a string of horrendous coaches and then wondered why the teams in the 90s stunk. They brought back Majors who was waaay past his prime as a head coach. They allowed Pitt Stadium to fall into such a state if disrepair that it probably wasn't even feasible to renovate it. They didn't put much effort into getting students to games (compared to HF) and then wondered why they didn't show up to watch horrendous teams play in a stadium falling apart.

Pitt "made a few phone calls" for their fake fundraising effort to see if they could generate any money for an on campus stadium in the early 90s. Totally incompetent approach. Pitt moved to HF because they were strong-armed to do so. And it was easier than planning a new stadium were Pitt Stadium stood. Now, since they made ZERO effort to secure land in Oakland, there is even less space then before and it's more expensive.

They deserve to be where they are... at the bottom of the ACC and it's not going to change. Best to hope for is a a decent season once in a while. So maybe 9-3 and just missing out on the playoff once every 10 years! The new OC will bolt to the SEC or BIG as soon as he has any success. That's how it is and we can thank the morons at Pitt.

Get lost - you don't want this smoke!

I'm laughing at your "smoke".

I mean so far all you've got is telling people that because they don't have something you don't have they shouldn't talk about something that you feel no issue with discussing yourself. People don't find that compelling, they find it laughable.

Wrong as always
Stick to rolling Pennies

Would be interested to know thoughts on the following…

Where do you build it?
How do you pay for it?
Where do people park?
