Duquesne's women's team is 22-2, is ranked #24, and at 10-1 is tied for 1st place in the A-10 conference. They have a very good team led by a senior point guard. I guess at Pitt - with Brianna Kiesel and now James Robinson, we've seen the ups and downs of what can happen with a senior point guard...
The Dukes have found a way to find tall post players -- their secret is they look overseas. They have a 6-3 from Hungary, a 6-3 from Estonia, and a 6-3 from Spain. Pitt's tallest player is 6-2 and Pitt's rebounding is suffering.
Closer to home, Blackhawk's Chassidy Omogrosso is having a nice freshman year - shooting 38% from 3 and averaging 10 points per game. She's playing 25 minutes per game. Some may remember that Chassidy O. had originally committed to Pitt under Coach B. When Coach Suzie was hired, she recruited Cassidy Walsh, so Chassidy O. switched to the Dukes. Essentially the schools traded PG recruits. As of now, the Dukes are getting the better of the deal, though Walsh, who plays 14 minutes per game, is shooting a respectable 35% from 3.
This might be the year when the Dukes finally get into the NCAA tourney - after being snubbed a couple of times. I'm hoping the Dukes get a shot this year.
Go Pitt.
