Pitt Athletics is playing for real now!
Someone better break the news to @Sean Miller Fan ...Well, I think if there were any lingering doubts about whether the arena project was going to get started on schedule, the fact that Dan Fisher is not being announced as Penn State’s coach right about now should clear that up.
Seems like it very much cuts hard in one direction or the other with these young coach families: they either really dig the college town deal, or they’re really opposed to it.Let’s just say it turned out to be a family decision to stay in pittsburgh
Well if true I would think we would go after a new coach who is also highly ranked and pay big bucks to come to Pitt. We do need a new arena for the non revenue sports we have the money ...never mind didnt see the updateIf true, cancel the arena and pay Fisher whatever PSU is asking. We need a coach, not an arena. The team is doing fine in the FH. Heck, PSU plays at old Rec Hall. Just pay him. He should be the highest paid volleyball coach in the country.
Yea- I would have been anxious all day. Great news for PItt .I'm glad I was busy and missed this thread and only saw the end result. My heart sank opening it.

I will be interested to see if Pitt can stay at the same level without Lund. Top 20 level yes. Top 5 remains to be seen.No on arena. Yes on Fisher. They need to pay Fisher whatever he asks. Same as Vidovich. We have 2 coaches who could win a National Championship here. You pay them any amount.
I’ll break it to you: Fisher’s no longer here without arena commitments. On a related note, they’re no longer planning on having women’s lacrosse play at the soccer stadium. No on arena. Yes on Fisher. They need to pay Fisher whatever he asks. Same as Vidovich. We have 2 coaches who could win a National Championship here. You pay them any amount.

That can't be true, because SMF says that Pitt has no need for the new building.
Just shut up!If Fisher said he isnt staying without the arena, I would have said "bye." He is winning in the FH and the program loses a lot of money. Its great to see a winning program but we cant justify the expense of a volleyball arena with a shitty basketball program and the future of football in doubt due to the explosion of these NIL deals. Now isnt the time for an arena.
Just shut up!
You have no clue what you are spouting off about.
Thank you…
Again, these decisions are made way above your pay grade and your ability to comprehend.I have a clue that the volleyball program loses boatloads of money. Would you not agree with that?
Let’s build a 750 million dollar football stadium instead. If Fisher said he isnt staying without the arena, I would have said "bye." He is winning in the FH and the program loses a lot of money. Future of football in doubt but yet you want a stadium in Oakland? Makes less sense than a building that more than just womens Vball will benefit from.and the future of football in doubt due to the explosion of these NIL deals. Now isnt the time for an arena.
Ever hear of Title 9?I have a clue that the volleyball program loses boatloads of money. Would you not agree with that?
Where are they playing? Don’t they start soon?I’ll break it to you: Fisher’s no longer here without arena commitments. On a related note, they’re no longer planning on having women’s lacrosse play at the soccer stadium.

Save your simplistic questions...

I know you know this but there are feasibility studies performed before projects go forward. The arena is good for the university. Btw, you and I both put a vaccine into our bodies with much less data. You believed the experts. Now please believe the experts who green lit this project.
I dare you to answer this:
Does Pitt volleyball operate on a net loss every year
a) yes
b) no
Come on FK, you know better. In olympic sports. The new arena isn't going to add many more wins to the volleyball program. The program is a coach, much like soccer. Take Fisher and Vidovich away, and the programs are mediocre at best. Regardless of where they are playing, those 2 are 2 of the best coaches in the country and as long as they're here, we'll win.....or as long as Pitt is committed to paying a ton of money to whoever the HC is of those programs if they leave.
As for the football stadium, D1 college football will always be at Pitt in some form and will always generate money. Even if some split occurred where the top 20-30 programs left and Pitt was stuck playing WVU, VT, UVa, Md, etc, there would be interest, much more interest than Pitt volleyball. And with land acquisition, it would probably cost $500 million and probably not even that much. Volleyball has a home currently and the team is doing incredibly great playing there. Look where PSU volleyball plays.
FFH is an albatross at this point. It’s obsolete. And winning isn’t sustainable there. When Pitt recruited my kid, we spent time there. There’s still no AC and it’s falling apart. Several times per week, the olympic sports teams are expected to hit the makeshift weight room that was shoehorned into the rafters. Heat rises. Imagine working out in a sauna. Maybe that works for wrestlers that have to cut weight, but surely you can understand that it’s an awful environment for 99% of the athletes. The building is not P5. It’s not even high major, mid major or small D1. You think FFH is good enough. I can assure you it’s not.I am saying fund the program, pay Fisher whatever, just dont spend $300 million on new facilities when the FH is not preventing the team from winning
