I see. We have a defensive minded head coach who was supposed to be very good. Yet, in year three. I see a defense poorly coached ( just look at the blitzing we do ). The timing is completely off. Which then exposes your defense pre snap and allows the QB enough time to read the blitz and then make the necessary adjustments before the ball is snapped.

On top of that we fail to make the proper adjustments when teams use their slot to take advantage of our safeties and linebackers.

Our tackling is atrocious. I cannot remember a Pitt player run threw contact and stop a guy in his tracks. Our guys are always going backwards when contact is made. This is basic fundamentals when playing defense.

The lack of deviation from our original scheme is killing us this year and especially last year.

Here’s what scares me for the future. Paul Chryst was a offensive minded head coach. In year 3 we saw first hand what his offense can do once it was implemented. It showed signs of working very well. However, I have not seen the same type of signs from our defensive minded head coach with his defense.

We all can point the finger at Dinucci. But I am really starting to believe he is just better than Pickett. It’s the only logical conclusion. Why would they put a player in at the most important part of the team who is not better than the guy behind him. Either way it’s secondary to the problems we face going forward.

I just don’t see any type of improvement on defense. Which is a huge red flag from our supposedly defensive guru head coach.
