Here you go Owt ... JRob appreciation thread ...

I always thought people were too hard on him. The guy has won quite a few games at the end. He has a lot of heart. Just simply limited in some areas.

Ill give the kid credit.........he does compete and has the grit many former Pitt players have...........

... Who's in?
He redeemed himself, but we still came a pubic hair from losing, in no small measure due to his poor play down the stretch.

That said, it's survive and advance time, there are no bad wins. But if there were, this one would qualify.

Can I be in for select points of every game? Some minutes he looks like a senior leader and others he shoots airballs and misses crucial 1 and 1's.

Today he came through.

Well done! I have been waiting for awhile to have a SR guard come up huge in a tourney game, since Levance against Xavier. That was great to see.

Own up and give him some credit...you too poker.

Jesus.

JROB made the plays in the last minute for sure and deserves credit but the player who bailed this team out was Cam Johnson. Let there be no mistake about that. I didnt think the kid had the talent to compete at this level but his play today was impressive. Got beat on D a bit but everybody does. Gotta hope he can continue to play well.

Holy shit, it's like sometimes players make shots and sometimes they miss them! Do you think he might make some shots and miss some shots in the next game? Probably not, right? That's gotta just be a fluke.

Is it smart to be a prisoner of the moment in EVERY moment? Is it appropriate to have a temper tantrum after every miss? Does it seem mature to meltdown after every turnover? Think a bit more emotional maturity might be in order?

I have no problem giving him the credit he's due-- that steal and layup was a balls play, and the tough shot he hit after than was huge as well. Like I said, he redeemed himself with those two plays. Nobody can ever say he doesn't give max effort.

Robinson has been outstanding for 4 years. Today's game was icing on the cake. He will be missed next year every time the offense stalls.

JR is a habitual passer and devoted to setting up others. In doing so, he decreases himself as an offensive threat to a fault. Should his final playing days inspire him to "leave it all on the court" he could advance Pitt beyond what's expected of them post season.

With that said, he reminds me of someone playing the market. It's sometimes not what trades you make, but which ones you don't. This also, requires skill and lots of discipline, an attribute few have. Trades never made are obscure by everyone minus the portfolio manager. Conservative trading is a boring but winning strategy. Herein lies JR's attributes and on court character make-up.

Needed somebody to shoot over top of that zone. Glad he stepped up.

Please stop. He has not been "outstanding" for 4 years. To say that is totally ludicrous.

Agreed. He made a big steal when the cuse had control. That was big. Went from possibly down two or three to up two. Biggest play in the game in my mind (then the shot of course).

I was sitting in the arena and couldn't believe he covered 3/4 of the court that fast. I figured he'd pull the ball back out, but wow, he just played outside of himself for that 5 second stretch. And he hit the jumper to go up 4.

Hats off to James. With everything on the line he played smart, aggressive basketball that saved the day.

What a relief to all of Panther nation...that you're willing to give JR even a morsel of credit...big relief and it's always great to have loyal fans that are with the team WIN or TIE!

Well Poker is right. Great for JRob, like I said, he did what you hoped a 4 year Sr starter would do at the end of the game, make plays to win the game. But let's not act like he has been Chris Paul for the 4 years he has been here.

Last I checked, there is some room between the vitriol he gets from a lot of posters here and "Chris Paul."

Debate/argue back n forth to everyone's delight herein. There's no denying he came thru with some big time plays at the end, but you have to admit it was Jekyll n Hyde there for a while, what with the one airball on the 3 that wasn't remotely close.

But the hell with whatever skill/talent may be involved, maybe he just has up n down luck like Trevor Cooney of the Cuse. Now I've seen some lucky bank shot 3's go in, but that one he put in from the side corner early in the game has to be the luckiest one I've ever seen.

Guys like Mike Young, Artis and JROB are great kids who play hard and deserve a lot more respect than they get. If they played for a smaller program like St. Joe's they would be considered heroes. I think our expectation have been distorted over the past 15 years with all the success we've had. Winning 20 games and making the tournament almost every year is rare for most programs and yet fans here act like we such now.

I disagree on this.

Clearly you will never feel that way and that's fine. You obviously have a deep seated dislike for James' game which comes through clearly in your many, many posts criticizing him

However, there is a long history of highly criticized players becoming legends as we move farther and farther away from their playing days. I don't know if you were around to read the things written about Carl Krauser or Tray Woodall while they were playing, but they are perfect examples of this.

Just give it a few years - if we have a PG with a low assist to turnover ratio, many will harken back to the days of James Robinson and how he would have games with 7+ assists and no turnovers....

... Who's in?
I was sitting in my La-z-boy laughing out loud during Seth Greensberg's Celebration of JRob after the game. It was an almost unbelievably surreal contrast between how a long-time coach, a guy who KNOWS basketball, views a PG and how many Pitt fans look at James.

Obviously, James will never be a scorer like Cat Barber or Gbinige, but, he'd be a very valuable player for almost every college team in the country. When he has two turnovers in a game, it's so rare that the commentators remark about it.

Robinson has the best career assist to turnover ratio in NCAA HISTORY. Think about that for a while. A:TO is the stat that defines PG's. He's not a great PG, but we will miss him. And, a lot of posters should feel dumber after listening to Greenberg's tribute.

To early lets see how he performs thru the end of tourney time.
He's the team leader but I'm not sure he knows that. Maybe Dixon needs to make sure JRob understands this!
Its obvious that when J Rob has great games PITT is really hard to beat and the team steps up.
When he su-ks we're easy to beat and the team seems to lay down.
JRob needs a string of really good to great games than we'll party!

He's given everything he has for four years and a true Pitt fan or for that matter any college bb fan can't ask any more from a player. He's had a career he can be proud of and for all the haters there's just not much to say to you because he owes you nothing but effort and he's given it is all every second he's been here.

I'm not sure if this was picked up on TV. but before James missed the front end of them 1 and 1 his shoulder got dinged. I wondered if he needed to leave the game rather than shoot a crucial free throw so late in the game. He stayed in and missed. So there were some extenuating circumstances, but the fact remains.....he still missed

Effort is appreciated but its results that separate tne average talent from the achievers.
Hes on a short lease but couldbecome an achiever depending on how he performs in March.

Yeah, I saw him rubbing it. He's been wearing that elastic tape on that shoulder for a few games. He stayed in and made the shots he had to make.
