Here's my cheap 2018-19 Pitt staff

But who else can we realistically land at this point? Its going to either be a risk based on upside or an established hire who is either stalled out or on the way down (or trying to work their way back up). I don't think we can land one of the top hot names based on where we are at today.

Pitt also could start out paying Toole only like 700-900k in year 1 even as he's paid only (but very respectively) around 225K a year at RMU.

If Pitt did get Toole (or if he went elsewhere), as an RMU fan I would be fine/happy with them pursuing Mike Rice to come to RMU either as the head coach or first assistant. He did very well there before & has a lot of ties to top end HS talent.

Here is my short list of cheap young head coaches who we could afford.

Nate Oats, 42- Head coach at Buffalo, third year their, coached under Hurley. Has them 8-0 in conference this season. Has a career record of 53-35 overall and 29-15 in the MAC

Nick McDevitt, 40- Head coach at UNC Asheville for five years has two NCAA a tournament appearances.

Earl Grant, 40- Head coach at College of Charleston spent six years under Greg Marshall. Took CofC from nine wins to 25
Here is Earl Grant's career record:
9-24 3-15
17-14 8-10
25-10 14-4
16-6 7-3

Looks like he has survived a rebuild already

I would add Pat Kelsey to the list - 42 years old - Head Coach at Winthrop - former assistant at Wake and Xaiver (nice recruiting foot print) - Career Record of 108-64 (.628)

14-17 6-10
20-13 10-6
19-13 12-6
23-9 13-5
26-7 15-3
13-8 7-3

NCAA tourney last season - Accepted the UMass job, but 2 days later changed his mind

If you want to generate interest at an absolute minimum cost

Head Coach: Andy Toole - familiar to Pitt fans, knows area; not sure about his high level recruiting capability, but he's had good talent at a low-major
Associate: Brandin Knight - this would be an instant indication that Lyke wants to restore the golden era; certainly debatable how good he was here before, but nobody cares more about making Pitt a winner
Assistant: Mike Rice - since he was fired from Rutgers, he's been involved in youth basketball and has tons of east coast connections now, was Toole's former mentor
DBO: Tray Woodall - already in this position at RMU

Try to add an experience ACC recruiter to the mix
BK’s not coming back as an assistant. Mark that one down.

Andy Toole not helping his promotion potential in turning a 10-pt halftime lead into a 13-pt loss. Holding on to beat Wagner would’ve put them in great position to win the NEC.

I know...I'm really frustrated. He needed to keep his team energized & ready to put away Wagner. Instead, Wagner stormed back quick & had all of the momentum the whole 2nd half.

RMU now needs to sweep next week after back to back 1-1 weeks.

Yea but still in position for home-court advantage through the semis so could play at Wagner for the bid or host the game if Wagner loses in the 1st 2 rounds

Pitt can and should do better than Andy Toole and I say that as a Toole fan overall.

And Brandon Knight, while maybe my favorite player ever at Pitt, has not done nearly enough to be a HC at an ACC school to this point.

Those can't be our best options. While I think Dambrout at Duquense has been WAYYYY overhyped to this point, he would be a better option than those two. And there is no way that Duquense should be able to hire a better coach than Pitt.

And I know people are going to respond that we hired Stallings blah blah... But that doesn't mean he was our best option, his hire means they simply hired the wrong guy due to a train wreck of a process led by some douchebag who fled to Oregon St.

Barnes was the worst AD ever. He makes Steve Pederson look like God.
