He could recruit qb's and other top notch offensive talent, he's coached at Pitt before, what's not to like? Sell kids on preparing them for the NFL, talk about Aaron Rodgers, Charles Woodson, Julius Peppers, all the guys he coached, hire a top notch defensive recruiter and thats easy fix. Easy fix!! Make this happen!!! I will donate to make it happen triple what I donate now!

That’s not a terrible idea but he doesn’t seem like he’s got the personality of a college coach nor do I think he’d rather coach college than nfl.

The only ex NFL coaches I can think of who have had success in college are Saban, Carrol, and Spurrier to a degree. 2 coached at blue bloods and they all won NC's. NFL coaches do not like the recruiting trail and kissing up to donors. There are good coaches in the lower college ranks that can turn a program around, recruiting and assistant hires are the key.

I am not advocating for anyone, but there are three ex-NFL head coaches out there with ties to Pittsburgh. McCarthy, Lewis, and Tomsula.

Tomsula is off the board. His life as President of the Ampipe booster club is keeping him busy.

Man! How could I forget? Two more: Jim Haslett (who I played against in high school), and of course, Cowher (who I would have played against in high school if not for the Western Pennsylvania rite of passage for my generation--the teacher's strike!)

I think its a win win for McCarthy. He picks the personnel, he sets the culture and shows the NFL he can do what Pete Carroll did and manage all football operations enroute to a Head Coach/GM role. He has coached in college, at Pitt no less, he knows this area, could sell elite talent on preparing for the NFL and could get buzz into the program just by being hired.

Only if we can bring in Ray Searage as a quarterback whisperer.

"Now what we're going to try to do, instead of avoiding them altogether, is throw right at the defenders and hope they only tip it up in the air so we can catch it."
Would we then have to hire Tommy John as our team physician?

Also that guy who coached the Giants for a year. Don't remember his name, not that it matters.

But let's go hire him.

The more I see dissatisfied posters on the coach the more convince I am that Mike McCarthy would be a great hire. Its not like Narduzzi is gonna ever win 10 games and wow a recruit with his accomplishments but Mike could. I will continue to say this until that job comes open and is filled by him

On second thought UNC is doing well with retread Mack Brown, maybe it’s time for Sherrill 2: Back to the past.

Actually that would have been 50 cents, since 3 times 50 cents would be a buck and a half.
If it were 0, well anything times naught is naught!

What is that famous song? Nothing from nothing brings nothing?? well maybe im saying it wrong but with Pitt football we get what Nordy and the budgeting committee put in. And they do not invest in football nor do they allow the boosters to do what other programs do, even though we have boosters that can buy players just like Ohio State lol

LOL! Our boosters chip in enough to buy a 6 pack of Milwaukee’s Best to share among the group. Alligator Arms.

Saban, and Spurrier were successful college coaches who tried the pros and failed, then went back to college. Pete Carroll stands out as an NFL head coach who went to college and won big. Carroll has a great personality that appealed to young players. Can you imagine Bill Cowher groveling in front of some 17 year old kid, begging him to come to Pitt? Coaching college teams, and coaching pro teams are quite different. Yes, both involve Xs, and Os, but in college, recruiting is the name of the game. In the pros, players have power far beyond what college players do. You have to be somewhat of a ringmaster. When the stars get tired of the coach, he gets fired. Different sport, but the Penguins, led by Mario, got the greatest coach in the history of the sport fired. Think about that! Michael Jordan, and Magic got successful coaches fired as well. That doesn't happen in college. Imagine trying to deal with AB the idiot, Ben the diva, and Bell the knucklehead. Apparently Aaron Rogers lost faith in McCarthy. Exit McCarthy. McCarthy can probably land another NFL job if he wants it though. Guys with Lombardis nearly always get another shot if they want. Why would he come here to beg kids to play for him. Also, being a local means little, as the local talent level is nothing special. In the 70s, we hired 2 young coaches with SEC backgrounds. The results were fabulous. We're in an eastern league, that leans south, quit hiring these Big 10 guys.

Sorry for rambling a bit.

Exactly, if we get on the coaching carousel again anytime soon and go for a coordinator then we should look in the ACC or SEC since they have mostly the same recruiting footprint.
