Holstein (Good)

Who on Pitt’s schedule would we definitively lose to with a healthy Holstein and Reid?

"Most teams" implies most teams, not most teams we played while constructing a sub-50 strength of schedule. So if you meant that we could have been competitive with most teams on this past season's schedule with those two, then fine.

Fine, then who would we definitively lose to outside of the top 12 teams in the nation?

There's a good chance that we end up with exactly one win this season vs a team with a winning record. And now you're telling me we can play with anybody outside the top 12? Delusional.
You’re changing the narrative. I said, a healthy Holstein and Reid gives us a chance to beat most teams.

You think it’s delusional that we could beat teams like Ole Miss, Iowa State, Mizzou, or Illinois with a healthy Holstein/Reid?

It’s amazing how fans twist themselves into pretzels. Like the comments about a few freshmen or youn guys looking good. While that is a good thing, it’s the same thing every year. When they all get on the field, there just aren’t enough good ones. And not even close.

And in anticipation of it possibly coming - you’ll say I'm part of the problem by not donating. So I’ll say I’m not complaining. I know the deal.

Yes. The OL needs to be much better to beat those teams and so does the defense.

No, I'm talking about with Reid and Holstein. I'm not changing anything.

Like, do you not understand how bad Ole Miss would beat us (yes, with both of those guys)?

I realize you can cherry pick every team's worst game and use it as some example that if all the stars align on that particular day we could hang with them. But that's just playing mental gymnastics. "The Pirates beat the Dodgers twice, so they can hang with the best of the best."

Actually no. I’m interested to hear why you think so?

ROFL... in other words, no one was interested at the price Pitt is paying him due to multiple concussions. Big shocker.

I don't know if he thinks its delusional, but I do. All of those teams have better coaches than Pitt, and with the arguable exception of Iowa State, better rosters.

Not sure how much football you follow, but how do you think Pitt's defense would have held up against Lane Kiffin's offense this past season?

Actually no. I’m interested to hear why you think so?
I was right--you don't follow college football, or you don't understand the game.

Ole Miss was 9-3 playing in by far the toughest the SEC, was #2 in the country in total offense, had a top line QB and a bunch of high level SEC talent.

let's turn this around--I'm interested in hearing why you think Pitt could hang with that team with a fully healthy roster.

Is the SEC really, by far, the toughest conference? This year, the Big Ten is better at the top and the bottom half of the SEC is horrible.

The top three in the Big Ten might be better, but there is a huge drop off to number four in the Big Ten that doesn't exist in the SEC. 4-6 in the SEC are much better than 4-6 in the Big Ten.

And of course, as always, the bottom of the Big Ten is also horrible.

Fair enough, though I think Illinois is better than they get credit for?

Dart or Altmeyer? Personally I think Altmeyer is a better QB, but understand why Kiffin went with Dart.

I don't know. They played two teams all season that won more than seven games. They lost both by a combined 59-16. They did pretty good against the rest of the mediocre or worse teams that they played, but I'm not sure that actually means they are good.

They are like a poor man's Indiana. They got a schedule that only had them playing two good teams all year (and Indiana only got to two with a playoff game). They both lost pretty handily to both of the good teams they play. They (mostly) took care of business against the crummy teams that they played. Which, to be fair, is more than you can say for us.

The SEC is the most overrated conference in college football. Anybody can play football when it’s always 80° outside.. the real teams can play football when it’s cold and translates. Pro cities are up north. That propaganda from ESPN seems to work on everybody.

Trolling or just stupid?

They are Overrated. The media hypes them up but with NIL it will show the mediocrity of the conference has a whole in the next few years.Out of the 16 teams half of them or mediocre has a whole, with great recruiting rankings that should indicate they would just beat up on out of conference teams. But no…….they schedule cupcakes for homecoming and there are really only 2 elite SEC teams and id even say they wont have that by 2026. All teams will be a year to year toss up. I predict even SMU in the future beating on these overhyped teams in the CFP.
