Honest question

How is she a disaster? Got money for major facility upgrades and most of our athletic programs are improving.
Because the only two programs that matter are MBB and football and she gave both extensions after mediocre or terrible seasons that have given them no leeway to move on from anytime soon.

I like saying I’m interested inPitt volleyball or soccer success as much as the next person. But honestly I don’t care.

If that’s your reasoning, then you really have no clue what an AD does.

You have no clue what an AD does.
You’re right. I’ve worked in multiple college athletic departments but because the #1 job of an AD (which is hiring and managing coaches) she has failed at in the 2 biggest sports at Pitt, I have no clue because she flipped the Pete and made Pitt’s colors pretty again. She sucks.

Narduzzi has stabilized the program and brought in decent recruits. The issue is Miami, UNC, and the rest have had stellar classes. I doubt they get someone better and eventually he has to luck into a 9+ win season once he hits on a QB. But basically he is handicapped with 2 losses (UNC, Miami) and throw in the occasional ND loss. We have to play Clemson back to back years, which is another loss. The program really can’t do better than 8+ if we are looking at things realistically. The recruiting gaps are just too big in football to return to as a national contender, but he has done a solid job in returning to top 25-35 status.

BB is much easier to turn around as all it takes is a handful of hits. Everyone wondered what capels first class would be and he ended up surprising many with talent. Did they all stick, no. But he likely will surprise us again. If not, the heat will pick up next year. That is more on Capel than Heather. She offered money up for Hurley who was never serious. Many thought Pitt was going for the other duke assistant, and were floored at getting Capel who had won at two previous sites. Not her fault he hasn’t made it work.

The football program isn’t much different today than it was under Harris and Wanny. Pretty much in the 7-5 range. The basketball program is the much bigger concern right now.

When does Heather feel heat for both programs ?
Football is doing about as close to what can be expected at Pitt. Narduzzi wins more than average ACC programs and runs a clean program. Capel was a good hire. She went hard after Hurley and a few others but capel was a good consolation. He hasn’t worked out as well as expected but its not over just yet. I don’t understand people’s constant hatred towards heather. There are definitely unrealistic expectations from Pitt fans for both programs.

She’s created stability in an athletic department that hasn’t enjoyed any in a long time and based on her job responsibilities has done a great job if you ask a representative sample of constituents, which I have.

I couldn’t disagree more with the sentiment towards Heather. She is treated with kid gloves when she’s been at best mediocre.

I understand people’s hatred for Heather (same as PsU fans hatred of Sandy Barbour). It’s called toxic masculinity.

Capers recruiting has been my biggest disappointment. I didn’t expect him to be a very good X & Os coach and I don’t think he is. But I really thought he would bring in much better talent and he really hasn’t. That has been a huge disappointment.

Another in the long list of AD’s trying to use Pitt to spring board to their dream job quickly. Unfortunately, she couldn’t land Hurley or maybe she would’ve moved on to a big ten job like she bragged about when she got here by now.

And my hatred of Steve Petersen was what? Toxic femininity? I don’t like frauds.
He WAS a fraud. I’m not saying female ADs aren’t allowed to be criticized, but when there isn’t a single good non-message board topic reason to hate the job she has done that smells like something else to me.

Extending a coach that went 3-15 in conference and a coach that went 5-7 overall are grave mistakes. If you can’t criticize those decisions, I guess we shouldn’t even be discussing Pitt Athletics.

Football is kind of a lost cause. There's nothing really to play for anyway. Bball its relatively easy to elevate a program to NCAAT level. I mean Rutgers did it. And Creighton, Wichita State, and Houston are powerhouses

Pitt isn’t OSU or Alabama that needs and wants to win at whatever the cost is .

Thinking that Heather alone makes the final decisions in these matters is a bit naive .

If Pitt really was serious about winning big time in both Fb and Bb I doubt Heather would‘ve been the choice in the first place .

Thinking some new ADs is coming in here and hiring some great coach is a fairy tale .

Just as JC is going nowhere and neither is Heather . The university wants to run clean programs and that’s their major concern

We were a lot better than mediocre in basketball not all that long ago and there were a lot of games in which it was exciting to be at the Pete.
I just question a board of trustees getting involved in telling a basketball coach or football coach how to do their job as well. Most of the board probably don’t even know how the recruiting even works

If true, regarding the cheating, why hire this guy? He was fired for violations of cheating at Oklahoma. I just believe that to be a farce, tbh.

Great question. If I knew the answer I’d throw my hat in the ring after Heather gets fired.

I do think Pitt could find a way to be a competitive hoops program again. But by and large I just don’t see the pieces needed to be a consistently dominant program in either major sport.

Narduzzi is 37-34 against FBS competition, he needs to win more.

So she is a women and can’t be criticized? Sounds like you don’t think women are strong enough to handle the role of an AD. That’s a shame.

I haven’t liked an AD here since Jeff Long. He at least was cool. And I was excited about HL especially with doing most of the right and obvious things away from the playing surfaces. But we have been trending downward in every other sport since.
