Honest question

Not speaking for anyone but myself, but I loved the Capel hire. Was at opening press conference. Had me excited about Pitt basketball again. Then I saw the staff. And everything since has soured me on the hire.

This is where I have to hand it to Heather (and Pat) in regards to the football program. The financial commitment to retain top assistants (partridge) and be able to hire guys like Marion, Beatty, etc who were coveted guys and seem like home runs has kept me interested. We know it’s a long shot for us to get to a certain level in football but as long as they’re doing those things and recruiting goes up we can hopefully incrementally get better. And viewing future pros is at least enjoyable for me.

Agree. And there is a world of difference between the culture Narduzzi has created compared to Capel. Guys like PIckett and Pine coming back, the number of guys Pitt has in the portal... that speaks volumes. For the most part, you know you are at least going to see 60 minutes of effort when you watch the football team. You can also tell by the body language, his teams have fun.

This can’t be serious. That football team forgot to show up in either one or both halves in most of the games last season.

She should not hire another coach, if either need fired next year or two , the next AD should
lol not happening. Pederson forced out Wanny, hired Haymaker, Fraud, then finally Chryst. And 3 years later Pitt was making another hire, only because Barry Alvarez felt sorry for us after just 1 year. Heather isn’t going anywhere anytime soon and will be making any hires that need made.

Agreed. But I would guess since the football and basketball offices have taken omerta’s to not let anything leak we will never know and have to assume based on previous contracts.

No University or business is going to offer details about employee contracts unless they have to. It shouldn't be leaked and only those who were involved should know. It would be more concerning if it was leaked and made public.

She won't be making the hires. She will do some leg work, sit in on interviews, and ultimately walk the coach up to the podium and introduce them, but she won't be making the hires.

He is AVERAGE at best , there are many coaches that could win at Pitt , good lord , we just said F it and accepted this crap, sad

Except for the two hired before him, who both left for more money at other jobs even with their mediocre Pitt records.

Would Pitt fans actually feel any better about a potential hire if they heard the words “a search firm is involved”?

Off the top of my head, I can't think of a single good coach that was hired as a result of a search firm.

Doing diligence on a coach isn't that hard. Look at his record, recruiting, reputation. That's all it really takes.

Good programs don't need search firms because they get good candidates whose resumes speak for themselves. For that same reason, good candidates don't need to work with search firms. Search firms only act as a CYA for risk-averse bureaucrats.

Search firms actually serve a purpose. They are a third party buffer between the school and potential candidates. They don't necessarily recommend candidates, as much as do the leg work to find out who is out there that has legitimate interest in the job. They can prevent a school from the bad PR that comes from getting turned down publicly multiple times.
