He played with a look like he’s mostly gone but at least he played it out and didn’t further embarrass anyone after he came back. Daddy comments hurt more than helped as usual imo.

No other transfer has said anything like this. Plus Hugley said it is all bullshit. Believe what you want. Capel is here for at least another year. Pitt fans should ease up on the program bashing till next year.
There is no way to spin what is happening into a positive. If Capel where a 60 year old balding, white guy named Stevin Kallings, then he would have been fired based on this same body of work. Just a complete mess.

He was right to call Capel out for having said publicly he needs to recruit better players. That is a bitch slap to the players he has and comes across as not taking responsibility. I thought it was bad when he said it.

That said, he's wrong to make it out to just be the x's and o's. Because it *is* true we haven't had enough talent either. Everyone knows this; it's a combination of the two. And his son is one of those not really talented enough to play in the conference, at least not as a starter.

Believe what you want.
The problem is that what we are seeing matches up with the comments. I am referring only to the observable play on the court. The offense had few workable moving parts for long stretches in most games. A source in the program sends in a report such as we read, another source refutes it. Which account is supported by facts rather than emotion? You can believe what you want, but if your idea of a well coached offense is what has been rolled out, I don't know what to tell you.

I’m not a fan of lighting fires on your way out the door but if my kid was on that team, I’d have had a serious problem with Capel’s “we need to recruit better players” comment. Is it true? Sure, but I do not fault a father for taking an issue with a coach throwing his team under the bus.

Good lord. You guys complain about everything. If he gives coach speak, you cry. If he comes out and literally says we suck at recruiting you cry.

Of course the full quote was “..and I’m 100% accountable for that “

eff that tissue soft hurt feelings.
Horton was the Devin Bush of the pitt hoops -
They moved so little if almost expect a bird to perch on them .

ithiel’s entire mo - guys work hard to create enough space for me to shoot - I’ll be right here on this same spot I make from 36% of the time

good riddance to his sulky attitude and pudge.
His dad can complain about his third team who isn’t using him right

Which is a good reason to find another venue which he is now doing. Too bad Capel had to go public with it, the classy move would be to just tell the player he is not in the rotational plan for next year.
I don’t recall him calling Horton out specifically. I must have missed that part.

Good point. Perhaps he wants Horton back, that is another good reason to keep such obvious statements to ones self and communicate with the players. Every Coach needs to recruit better with maybe the exception of 4-6 teams.

He doesn’t need to communicate to the players
The context was “the team isn’t talented enough to win and i’m absolutely accountable for that “

anyone who thinks the team was talented enough to be a ncaat capable team ?!?
no
We played a walkon a ton
We’d go 8 minute stretches without making a fg regularly

Capel is not a good coach -
But no x and o scheme is turning that chicken shit into chicken salad
Now - if we have toney, X and even akc for depth maybe

So a parent is saying the same thing every poster on here have been saying for 2 years, about Capel and people are bashing him for the same thing. If that is the case, everyone shut up with the critisisims of Capel.

The statement needs to be that we need a sea change across the program. Players, coaches, effort, attitude.
The facilities get a pass for now.

We're also blaming his son's lazy play and legal troubles, which he isn't. Mr. Horton missed the fact that his son was part of the problem.

Someone tell Mr. Horton they wouldn't have to play zone if his son could guard someone in man.
There was a white shooter from Duke - Taylor king I think was his name- we joked all the time he couldn’t guard a garbage can .

taylor king is 20x the player of Horton
It’s why he went to Villanova and Horton will return to a low major or be a bench dude somewhere

The odd thing about that is that we actually played zone what, maybe 5% of the time? Surely it wasn't even as much as 10%. And most of time when we did play it it was just for a couple possessions as a change of pace or it was due to foul trouble and we were trying to protect guys.

Because as bad as we were at man to man we were, indeed, even worse in a zone.

Not me. Horton’s father is most likely closer to the truth but folks like u can’t seem to accept why we stink. This staff needs to go and they r wasting another year. It is year 4 and another 5 players quit the program and u don’t see a problem?

Last time I checked we have 0 recruits. Horton averaged 30 minutes and Capel talked him up. What does that say about Capel and the current talent level of this team?
This is the problem. We literally heard during the sit out year that he was the best offensive player in the ACC. So the evals are off. They don’t know what they’re looking at

I'm not sure chasing down an outlet to publicly spew venom at the coach on the way out the door is the smartest move, or in his son's best interest when it comes to finding a new home.

I would suggest the Hortons look for a school in an area a little more rural where parking is more plentiful.

Reading that interview and one thing Horton's dad has to say which resonated with me was the interaction with the towing company. So I lived in Morgantown for 8 years. And I lived in the neighborhoods close to the stadium. And the local tow truck drivers were literal vultures towing resident's cars on game days. WE LIVED THERE AND PAID TAXES THERE! One time they were hooking up my neighbor's car and we surrounded the tow truck and wouldn't let him leave. He grabbed a crowbar, we grabbed baseball bats. Cops came, I was irate and almost rested that despite the guy showing his driver's license to the driver the tow truck driver thought it was his right to impound the car. So they are jackals and I can feel for what Ithiel went through because I personally experienced it.

So in those heightened emotions, a copy can either take a reasonable approach and diffuse the situation, or he can be a prick and escalate a situation that absolute had no business or need to be escalated. So I complete get what Mr. Horton was saying. And I am white.

It is a pattern, too.

Sum total the last few years with all the losses piling up, most times he put each loss on them.

It isn't like that was a one off statement.

I pushed back on that at the time.
IMO, his eye for talent is too good to have over estimated what he was, and looking back after the fact it just feels like he was trying to sell it.

Anyone who ever lived in or travelled regularly into pgh knows that once that car is on the truck it’s going to 30th street yard .’ I hope Ithiel learned that . That car ain’t coming down
