Horton To The Portal - Confirmed

And we’re losing a guy who will be a year older

I'm okay with this one. From his perspective, he probably hates Pittsburgh now and got unjustifiably yanked around by the system. From our perspective, he is a dude who got hot like once out of every five games and was just a warm body on offense and a defensive liability the other four.

I do know Capel better find at least three guys who can shoot. We had two last year; they're both gone. And we're simply not going to win any other way. Distance shooting will always be the great equalizer in basketball.

I mean you’re really trusting the eval process of the guy who told us Horton was the best scorer in the ACC the year he sat out? He doesn’t know what he’s looking at right in front of him.

He’s not the last starter transferring out. There’s a possibility of NINE open scholarships and they’ve recruited like they have 2. Malpractice

Trusting? No way. I mentioned in another thread how eye-opening it was that our last two coaches talked up Ellison and Horton the way they did and what kind of reflections that must serve as in terms of how we practice, etc.

But do I think it's possible to find some shooters? That I do. They're pretty much everywhere now. Do I think he will actually do it? Probably not.

They might as well let all tickets to the Pete be free for next season because I cannot imagine ANYONE paying to watch this stuff. Perhaps some Pirates Fans who are also Pitt fans.

This team is going to be comically bad next year. Not that losing a player like Ithiel Horton *should* matter, but given our current state, it will matter a lot.

If you transfer twice , do you have to sit out or not ?

How can anybody be a fan of this ? Truly comical and makes me hate college basketball now.

College basketball is beyond becoming a joke now. It's already there.

And Pitt basketball is.....oh, what's the use. Until Capel is gone, it's non-existent. This is absurd.

I used to think Lyke was at least somewhat competent and a good fund raiser for the program. I'm starting to realize that she is part of the big problem in Pitt basketball along with her head coach and his staff. Put all of that together and you have the disaster and nightmare that we are in the middle of now at Pitt. When AD's and coaches refuse to be accountable, make excuses constantly and cover their asses all day long, this is what you get....multiple players transferring, no recruits with nothing on the horizon, and a continual decline of the program with the AD and head coach totally out of touch with the reality of the situation.

Another guard who didn't get better with the program.
That's a pattern.
I've seen wings and bigs show they've gotten better.
Not guards.

This headline didn't age well!

Correct. Which is why the year older thing was one of the more laughable things on this board. Even the guys who left. Xavier played with better players at Indiana but I don’t know that he progressed as one might think.

It had to be a tough year personally for him and a new start somewhere else might be what he needs .

He never lived up to the hype , but he did have the ability to change games when he was hot . Unfortunately that didn’t occur often enough .

He needs to take a step down to be impactful .

Jeff needs to get busy !

I thought he'd stay but this loss doesn't hurt a ton. Lots of Hortons in the portal. So right now

PG - transfer
SG - Burton
SF - Femi
PF - transfer
C - Hugley

6th - Sibande
7th - transfer
8th - transfer
9th - Jeffress

Lyke: "I think the value of continuity is important".
Translation: I don't want to look bad now after my horrendous hiring of Capel. I'd rather pass it off for another year and hope he goes away.

problem is every AD before Lyke has been so overwhelmingly incompetent that anything she does makes her seem like a superstar in comparison.
