How in the world is Jonathan Taylor not one of the 4 Heisman finalists?

I dunno. I agree with you. So not only are we going to shut out the playoffs to all but 5-6 schools, we are going to do it to the Heisman Trophy. College football can collapse and it would get exactly what it deserves.

Could not agree more, what a sham that Taylor isn’t a finalist

I tend to agree, although if you look at the award as being for the best player in college football. Taylor has great numbers, he’s a great player and maybe even a better person, but I don’t know who I’d put him in front of out of that group. Chuba Hubbard and JK Dobbins have the same beef.

He should have been given the nod over Jalen Hurd but the two Ohio state players and also the Ohio state RB must have canabolized some of the votes taylor would have gotten. Also nobody in Alabama or Texas or Florida probably even gave the guy third place votes. Shameful.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought these days they invite the 3-4 highest vote getters. Who they invite has nothing to do with a popularity contest, it’s who received the most votes since ballots have already been submitted.

Ok I just looked it up, invitees are based on the number of votes they got. There has to be at least 3, but they have the option to invite more if their vote totals were close enough to the 3rd place finisher.

So Taylor wasn’t excluded because of who he played for, he wasn’t invited because he didn’t get enough votes.

A reminder that Aaron Donald wasn't even in the top 10 in Heisman voting his senior year. Easily the most dominant defensive player in the country.
Any award that has a "watch list" months before the season actually starts is nothing but a sham.

Isn’t the vote a popularity contest??

I'd argue that he didn't get enough votes because he doesn't play for the top Big 10 team and they had two.

I’m not sure exactly how Donald’s senior year stacks up with Chase Young this year. I think Young has 16 sacks which is impressive, and he’s an elite talent no doubt.

But he simply doesn’t get Heisman recognition if he plays for an average P5 program as opposed to a blue blood in Ohio state. We all know how this works.

Yes, this is exactly what I mean. It has become strictly the provenance of the big programs. And....well....you can see where we rank. If Fitz played now for us, he wouldn't even make NYC. Neither would Hugh Green.

Through 11 games:
Donald
Solo tackles: 39
Assists: 17
TFL: 26
Sacks: 10

Young
Solo tackles: 31
Assists: 13
TFL: 21
Sacks: 16.5

So Young has way more sacks, likely because he's a DE but fewer tackles and TFL. I think it's about a push. Maybe Donald gets a slight edge here because he played a position where it's harder to rack up stats and the rest of his defense was really bad?
