Is this considered a good job?

No, weird fit. I guess its better than the Oregon St job he was up for last year or the DePaul job he was mentioned as a candidate for. Actually, DePaul has a better recruiting base.

I think Depaul a better fit... back to the Big East, But, I'd be leery he would bolt for UNLV in a year or two...

It is no real secret here that Howland has coveted the UNLV job, and was disappointed when Dave Rice was extended last week. Howland spends a lot of time in Las Vegas, and if Rice puts up another subpar season with the talent they bring in, I would expect Howland to take the job. The AD at UNLV made a mistake in my opinion by not making a move, guys like Ben Howland do not normally wait around for mid major jobs.

He's very good at negotiating for a new job during regional final weekend. At least this time he won't have that pesky distraction of coaching his current team.

@GoodmanESPN: Ben Howland has reached a verbal agreement to become the Mississippi State coach, sources told ESPN. He is en route to Starkville now.

Great, great hire for Mississippi State. I like it. He may even flourish there. The UNLV thing seemed to make A LOT of sense too though. Likely, even more sense. But, I think he can field a team of rugged ballers in the SEC. Actually, maybe Bama would've been even a better fit? Or, maybe he pulls a Pitt at MSU and puts 'em back on the map?
