when I saw that they hired Capel

1 I was relieved. While I was preaching patience Pitts track record is not good in these situations. The total silence and time frame after Hurley took the Ucom Job had me a bit concerned

2. Initially I didn’t think Capel was a Home run. Don’t get me wrong I think it’s a very good hire again especially given Pitts track record However I was leaning more towards a Musselman or Oats than Capel

3. I was initially concerned about his flame out at OU. However perhaps like the Loyola coach he’s learned something from that experience that he’ll bring to Pitt

4. The thought of his ablklty to recruit is definitely intriguing

5. While I don’t think it’s a HR hire (that will be determined several years from now) it’s not the disaster most predicted especially the local media bozos The fact that they are eating crow makes the hire a bit sweeter

As I said reatedly none of us know who she interviewed or how smoothly the process/plan was executed. The only way to judged the process is by the result However this is only a halftime grade. The hire will ultimately be judged by how well the team performs over the life of this contract.

The good thing is every Pitt fan has reason to be optimistic again about hoops. Watching the tourney reallly hit home how much I missed those years when Pitt was a regular.

Well done AD Lyke

It was a tough few weeks, I hung in similarly for the most part though started to get nervous when it was reported Schmidt was a serious candidate.

Cliches get overused one way or another, so maybe he was a quote Home Run higher unquote or not.

But, I have posted countless times it was a baller move. It came out of nowhere, and when it was officially announced completely changed the entire image of the program in one moment. And, with good reason, cuz his resume is PDG.

So after about half a decade of increasingly negative Vibes coming from the program, in an instant the Slate got wiped clean.

The hard part starts now, Capel needs to make good on it. But, it literally is a new day.

For sure it was a really good hire and perhaps you might call it a creative hire It wasn’t the standard Hot current head coach of a lower level program that I was advocating for. It also isn’t the typical pitt hire of an assistant who come cheap and they are looking for lightning in a bottle

Clearly there was some serious thought given to this hire and how it fits Pitts needs TODAY.

He’s still young.
He does have big time HC experience
Great pedigree to sell recruits
Instantly wipes away the mess the last two years
He has been very successful recruiting

Essentially he checks alll the boxes that Pitt needed to check in the current situation. As this resonates it may very well be the best hire Pitt could have made and that includes Hurely

YEP.

It’s going to take time and hopefully everyone gets behind Coach Capel and have The Pete rocking like it was before. We have better days ahead.
