I am 75 years old. I have seen a lot of basketball games and football games in my life. I would tell you that I’ve seen it all. But in the past 24 hours, four things happened that I have never seen.
1. A West Virginia scholarship basketball player is at the foul line for two free throws. He air balls, both of the shots! Division one player. Two air balls. Unbelievable.
2. Clemson has third down in 21 yards to go from approximately their own 35 yard line. The pit defense jumps off side three consecutive times to make it third down and 6 yards to go. Three consecutive times. Unbelievable.
3. Pitt has the ball on the 2 yard line marching into score. They encourage three consecutive 5 yard penalties for illegal motion and possibly a delay of game. In the midst of this, we have to take a time out that was really needed at the end of the game. Unbelievable.
4. Our offense is driving at the end of the game. We have one time out left. Reid takes a dump off pass and is tackled inside the Clemson 25 with 21 seconds left. Our head coach, who is responsible for number two and three above, let’s nine seconds run off the clock before he uses his last time out. Nine seconds! We could have run two more plays to try to win the game. Sad to lose a game like this. A banged up pit squad deserved better. The coaching staff let us down tremendously.
