I criticized Chryst many times while here but

his decision to send Shell walking and go with Conner is absolute genius in hindsight.
Shell really forced PC's hand on that. To Chryst's credit, he held firm and told the kid to take a hike, amd I think Iran reasonable to assume that was before Chryst knew exactly what he had in the freshman Conner.

Probably our best break there is that Conner might not have played the right mix of positions in high school that would have showcased him better to other schools. Then, the fate of depth at Pitt made it more desirable to use him at back rather than DE. He might have actually been tremendous at DE too ... Or merely pedestrian. So just a bunch strange, awful and wonderful chances of fate combined here...

An accurate depiction would be..Thankfully, Chryst's RB recruiting was poor that season that he struck out on all of their top targets and was forced to play Connor in a position he wasn't recruited to play....

6-6 x 3 needs a little criticism, IMO.

it needs a lot. Whether luck or an eye for talent though, Chryst got this one right. I'll give Chryst the benefit of the doubt and say eye for talent.

It's a shame I was hoping Chryst would work here and do better. He did somethings very well but others were big head scratchers. Still think he regresses to the mean at Wisconsin, but he does have some built in advantages there like Alvarez doing much of the heavy lifting and a easy Big 10 schedule. His new mean then is probably 9-3 with all the built in advantages.

Chryst was a good offensive mind regarding the power run game and a no bs coach. Lacked in other departments, but gotta acknowledge the good as well.

One had Fame & Records in High School but thought he was entitled just by being at Pitt, but another Smarts, Focus, & Heart!

One ACC Player Of The Year, overcame Knee Injury and Cancer, and did not make it about him. The other went from School to School looking to Transfer lost in his own Ego and fighting his own troubles within him.

Wish both success but glad Pitt kept the 2 Star and not the 5 Star just like you said!

Smart Recruits Choose & Stay At Pitt!
