Preamble: I bleed blue and gold, and donate to Pitt athletics. Further, I hated the hiring of Kevin Stallings from day one, but I believe that he should be paid his entire buyout of his contract.
Embarrassingly, my alma mater, The University of Pittsburgh, was completely bamboozled in the hiring of Kevin Stallings. Pitt's Board of Trustees (hereinafter "BOT") has zero excuse, provided that they know of google, for not seeing the following simple math when hiring Kevin Stallings:
1 - It was widely published that Kevin Stallings was going to be fired by Vanderbilt. (Funny thought: Vandy, should help in this buyout because Pitt saved them some $$$ upon hiring Stallings.)

2 - Unlike the best hire of all time, The Duzz, our AD, Scott Barnes, was charged with making the hire. Scott Barnes decides to hire a search firm, Collegiate Sports Associates (hereinafter "CSA.") CSA was led by Todd Turner, Scott Barnes' former boss when they worked at UW. Todd Turner also hired Kevin Stallings when he was the AD at Vandy. (Perhaps Pitt's BOT sees a slight conflict of interest when Stallings was pitched)

3 - In short, the Pitt's BOT did not see that Stallings was about to be fired, Todd Turner (friend to Barnes and Stallings), took Vandy's trash and had Scott Barnes sell garbage as gold. For our troubles, we paid Todd Turner for his earth shattering work.
4 - Scott Barnes stays for a cup of tea with us, and leaves us with a basketball coach that was never a fit from the day he was hired.
As I tell my kids, own your mistake. Learn, move forward, and don't make the same mistake twice. Pitt made a horrible mistake by hiring Kevin Stallings, and it is the University's fault for being so obtuse. Enough of this silly attempt to fire him for cause. Short of anything being in his file that is not public, it appears that he ran a clean program. His only fault was being a bad coach for this job. He was fired, and contractually due an agreed upon buy out of his contract. (Please also remember, Pitt should have money solely based on the buyouts of Jamie, Ben, Graham and HCPC.)
I only hope this time around, Pitt's BOT and Heather come together, and find us the 'Duzz for hoops.
Just one more simple math equation for Pitt's BOT if they are reading this post, if you spend the right money, which may be a bit much at first glance, to hire the right coach, you find yourself with no dead money in buying out the wrong coach time and time again.
