The root of all of the struggles started it when for whatever reason Pat Narduzzi decided that having an offense that functioned well under Mark Whipple wasn’t good enough. at least with Mark Whipple has a coordinator, he knew how to use the players he had and scheme guys open. It was a pro style run and shoot type of offense that runs the same type of formations that we have now, but it had some variations, but the difference was is that he knew how to recruit to his scheme and when he let him go it he did not hire the right coordinators that had a vision to have the right staff to recruit athletes that can make an impact on the offensive side of the football and the skill positions. So Pat Narduzzi needs to firing a perfectly fine offensive coordinator for no good reason whatsoever. Until we get a guy who can truly coach for his personnel this will keep happening.

Give Kade Bell Pickett, Addison, Izzy, Mack, Wayne, Krull, Stovall, SJL and I promise you he could make this thing hum too.

Why did Whipple struggle so much at Pitt in 2019? Why did his offense suck at Nebraska?

The root of all of the struggles is talent.

Why did Whipple have all that talent?? He choose better assistant coaches.

You do realize that Whipple left for 2x what Pitt was paying him and became the highest paid assistant in Nebraska history right? He was also recruiting a QB to Nebraska while he was still employed by Pitt.

Mark Whipple wasn't ever coaching at Pitt in 2022. No amount of selective reasoning is going to change that.

Losing Whipple didn't kill Pitt football, but hiring Cignetti did.

1) Contributed to Addison leaving

2) Contributed to a 2022 team that was more talented than at least 10 or 11 teams on its scheduled sputtering out and losing four games, instead of being the fringe playoff contender it should have been

3) Brought in Steve Blass to play QB in 2023, leading Pitt to have its worst season in 26 years... which, in turn, caused defensive talent to run away from the mess after the season

The root of Pitt's struggles this season was losing 2 OL and needlessly leaving Holstein in the Syracuse deep in the 4th when the game had been decided. He banged his head off the ground on that running play and hasnt been the same since.

So what? He banged his head again after that.

Defense is very easy to scheme against
Once some tape on our offense out - defenses just started putting a single safety high and apparently that destroyed our passing routes .

And you realize that Nardummy wanted to fire Whipple after year 2, but Pickett leveraged him by saying he’d only return for his last year if Whip was retained, right?

2021 doesn’t happen without him.

What does this have to do with when Whipple left after a successful 2021?

Plenty of Pitt fans wanted Whip gone after 2020. I wasn't one of them, but there were plenty. The bitching about 2 yard passes and KP running to the sideline after each play was endless.

I totally agree Whipple sucked for all but one year. And he was hoŕrendous at nebraska

Grateful for that one year, but yeah, whip didn't even make it one year on his Nebraska contract and as someone else noted they wildly overpaid to get him

67% of his time at Pitt, Whipple was an awful OC. Maybe he could build on his last year or maybe without Sr Pickett/Addison/etc, he reverts back to being an awful OC.

The team that was the PAC 12 title game away from the playoffs and the Heisman trophy winner throwing to him?

Half the yards and half the TDs. He still went in first round but was projected as a top 10 pick before the season.

There's no way doesn't have a minimum of 1200-1300 yards 15 TDs at Pitt. Pitt also beats Tennessee, gtech and Louisville with him. That's one of those "what ifs" seasons imo.

He was hurt.

But that is besides the point. He didn’t walk into a worse situation. He walked into a better one. The team had a better season. The offense finished 3 according to F+ that season.

He just got injured so didn’t get to fully enjoy the great situation he walked into. But he correctly perceived it as a great situation.

There's some selective memory going on here.

He played in 11 games at U$C. In those 11 games, he caught 59 balls for 875 yards and 8 TDs.

As a soph, he also played injured and missed parts of games. He still caught 100 balls for 1593 and 17 TDs.

When I say, he stepped into a worst situation, I mean it was a worse situation for him personally. He wasn't the "man" at U$C because he was splitting targets with Washington, Williams and Rice. His numbers reflect that.

At Pitt, he would of remained the "man" and been targeted as such.

Theoretically, yes. But I think that's kind of why he left - Cignetti wasn't using him as much in the Spring as he'd have liked. It kind of checks out with the initial game plan against West Virginia, too. I honestly think we thought we were going to pound and ground our way to the ACC championship that season.

Now, as it turns out, we did have a great running game because Izzy went off. But I don't think he was even Plan A, because we opened up with Hammond.

He seemed to see the shit storm approaching with Cignetti , so he went with the future Heisman winner and overall 1st round pick at QB
