We could field an experienced starting five, everyone of which could give you double figures on any given night.

Hugley, Hinson, Nike, Burton and Cummings

would not be a bad start

Yeah, I think you’d ideally like to see at least one guy who’s going to shoot it in the high 30’s from three, and I don’t know if I see that in this lineup.

On the other hand, I think if I had to pick between a lineup with one guy closer to 40% and the rest closer to 30%, or a lineup where 4/5 all shoot close to 35%, I think I’d take the second one for spacing purposes, especially since it’s not like Hugley won’t ever attempt a three from the center spot, and he’ll probably be around 25%. And I think that describes that collection of guys.

horton leaving chaps my ass. forget if Nike can shoot a 3 but right now, zero consistent threat of a 3 point shooter. you need someone who can hit a three, Hughley already will have 3 guys on him the second he gets the ball.

Gary- you are going to ruin your rep if you start posting marginally optimistic posts...
Look back to the beginning of last season. I posted plenty of “marginally” optimistic posts.

I said we could win with no stars fighting over the ball. We could win with team play, toughness, defense and rebounding, particularly if we played big.

I thought we could be a Big East style, half court team, winning games in the high fifties and low sixties.

Burton and Sibande are both career 33-35% three point shooters (though Sibande shot 42% in his season at Pitt). Cummings shot 37% from three at Colgate. Hinson is a career 33% shooter. Those four guys on the floor are probably a higher combined percentage than what we’ve had previously under Capel. You maybe don’t have a knock down guy (unless Sibande repeats his 42% year again), but you’re going to have guys 1-4 who defenses at least need to respect when they’re outside the arc.

It would be a notch better than Hugley, Mo, Horton, Burton and Femi. But last year's group badly needed depth, and thus far, we have even less than we had last year.

Agree. Even with Hinson, far from a finished product.

Some of the names mentioned, where they played and who is now recruiting them does give a glimmer of more to come.

If this team cant make 3s, they have no chance unless they are absolutely elite defensively or elite on the glass.

It's a start, as you said Gary. But we need more than that to field a competitive team with depth next year.

We first need to land him. It would be a good addition. Then we need an additional 3 more like him.

Yeah, I think we could definitely use this dude. I'm just hoping we can somehow land a solid 2/3 type of player. I can't get excited if Sibande and Burton are both in the starting lineup. Either off the bench, sure. But not both starting.

Hinson would be a solid get (has talent) but he also comes with some red flags. He didn’t get along with Kermit Davis as there were arguments during games for all to see. He was pretty much told to move on from Ole Miss. And he quit ISU before playing a game because he didn’t like the role he was told he would have.

Based on his last year playing and what Mo did last year…Mo seems better in every category. But I guess when you are where Pitt is at you can’t be picky.

Id hope with Hinson is that he's much better 2 years removed.

Hope isn't a strategy. If this Hinson kid is a spoiled brat or thinks a school owes him something, he's wrong. We can't "hope" he has changed or will work out.

Unfortunately, Pitt has put itself in a position now where we have to take these trouble cases and table scraps.

You're right its not. But that's all they got and there's not alot of that

I would say Jeffress and Santos should give you more next year than last year and we still have 6 spots to fill and add some much needed depth.

I hope for Jeffress sake it starts to click. I too think next year could be different for him, cautiously optimistic!

Let’s go!! We got a guy that quit on his last team before he even played 1 game and was told to get the hell away from his first school! Classic Jeff

Hinson seems like a real low character dude but also a P6 level player and we lack those so for 1 season, you take a guy like this. Not sure where he fits though.

PG - Cummings
SG - Burton
SF - Sibande/Hinson
PF - Akok???
C - Hugley

That isn't the worst lineup in the world

He left Ole Miss on his own for actual principle.

Iowa St he left when his coach left.
Are you serious…? He was told to leave ole miss because he got along with nobody and thought he was Michael Jordan….please don’t tell me you bought his last minute “I transferred because of the flag” bullshit 😂😂😂

First I have heard that. Anything to back it up?

Here’s articles about his transfers.

Dude….he left Iowa state before he even started for no reason other than he wasn’t gonna start…he was forced to leave ole miss because of his attitude and then used the flag excuse at the very last second…I’m just being real

Now lets not jump to conclusions here. Maybe Hinson will suddenly be a very high character guy, team player, and unselfish with no interest in causing trouble or being an entitled brat as he was before.

He was at Iowa state for a year before he left after he sat through an injury and his coach got fired.

Post facts from Ole Miss that back your version of the truth before you smear this kid.

The Miss. flag? Are you f%$&ing kidding me?? That's hilarious! I tend to think that can't be true.

Do we really want this kid at Pitt? Oh wait...I guess we pretty much have to take anyone with a pulse right now.

Yes, it’s not true at all, the kid said this after he was forced out for literally arguing with his coach on the court…and getting along with no one…this is a case of Jeffrey taking someone no one else will take

Regardless of how anyone feels about the flag, that looks like just an attempt to throw shade on the way out the door.

Did he not have a problem with the flag when he signed with Ole Miss?

Pitt fans are the worst.

Really glad we’re at the stage where we tear down a kid’s character before he steps foot on the court.

Y’all suck.
We’re at the stage where we take a kid with huge character concerns because we literally need to fill roster spots to field a D1 basketball team, you suck
