Initially, my thinking was it would behoove Twyman, Jones, Ford, and Morrissey to declare and it would be best for the rest to return. After further review, I'm not so sure.
If, heaven forbid, the whole season is scrapped, I assume the NFL will carry on as normal. I also assume the NCAA will give an extra year of eligibility to 2021 seniors and RS seniors. I think a decent number of those 2021 seniors will take advantage of the extra year. Therefore, I believe that the number of NFL caliber draft eligible prospects in 2022 will be higher than 2021. Maybe much higher.
In 2020, there were 255 players college players drafted. If I'm Mathis, Pinnock, or Hamlin, I think I would sooner take my chances being 1 of 255 draft picks out of maybe 400 potential NFL players in 2021 than I would trying to be 1 of 255 out of maybe 600 in 2022.
Obviously, I don't know what the exact numbers will be, but given a cancelled 2020 college season coupled with an extra year of eligibility to seniors, I'm sure it will be more difficult to get one of those 255 spots in 2022 than in 2021.
