If Syracuse wins tomorrow, there will be 11 teams in the ACC that won 20+ games. VT, GT, and FSU all won their NIT openers.
This might turn out to be the transition year that leads to the ACC being the top-tier league everyone thought it would be. Hopefully Swofford gets the message across that teams need to be a little smarter in their OOC scheduling to avoid silly losses and bad RPIs.
I'm a big Buzz Williams fan and I think he's going to make VT competitive. We know Leonard Hamilton is hit or miss at FSU. Maybe a deep NIT run keeps Brian Gregory at GT for another year or two. Mark Gottfried can't have another abysmal year like this one.
As much as Pitt fans are demanding results, this might turn into a Big East situation where finishing 9-9 or better gets you into the tournament in any given year. The downside to having a really strong league is some teams always have to be at the bottom.
On the other side, things look really bleak for WF and BC. Without bringing in some new mega-recruiter coach (e.g., Howland), I don't see how either of these teams can improve.
