It’s looking more evident that there will be a search for a new head coach to skipper the Panthers in 2021. I’m sure we’ll hear all the usual suggestions & the list of the usual suspects will be circulated.Putting aside the names, the next head coach needs to have previous college head-coaching experience, period. They should also have a strong offensive background, these two qualification should be a prerequisite.

Paul Chryst used Pitt as an on-the-job head coaching training program, which Wisconsin greatly benefited from. Dave Wannstedt, while having previous head-coaching experience on the Professional level, struggled to adjust to the college game his first couple of years. By the time he became more acclimated with the college game he was dealing with a new athletic director, And the rest is history.

Today’s college football is an offensive game. It’s about physically big athletes on the perimeter who win one on one battles for jump balls. Pitt’s next Head Coach needs to be offensive minded, and well acquainted with today’s wide open offensive attack. We can’t afford to take a chance on another coordinator, whether they be offensive or defensive. We need someone who understands the difference between being a coordinator and head coach. Someone who has A demonstrated track record of being well organized, disciplined and detached non-emotional while on the sidelines. A team is often times a reflection of the head coach’s personality, a cool even tempered & measured coach would in all likelihood field a disciplined team...which at this point Pitt is not.
