Agree. The kid was honest. Suspend him for a couple practices at camp or sit him for a quarter.
The 21 year age law is dumb. I have always thought that. At 18, you can put your life and limb on the line serving your country in a war half a world away, you are apparently deemed enough to determine the leadership of your community and nation, are adult enough to unilaterally decide to end your compulsory education, mature enough to get married, are accountable enough to purchase firearms, and have been given the ability to drive a three ton vehicle 65 miles per hour down a busy highway for three years. But for some reason, mainly the political unpalatability of advocating for a largely politically apathetic demographic at the expense of raising the ire of certain advocacy groups, that same18 to 20 year-old individual isn't responsible enough to walk into a bar and order a Yeungling. That is the epitome of a hypocrisy in my opinion.
I have always thought that if you don't want to repeal the 21 year old drinking age, than tie drinking age to military service (can get served with military ID) or other civilian service or academic performance standards with/or without taking necessary alcohol education classes. If a person achieves whatever standards you might put in place, you can add a notation right on their photo ID that they are licensed to be served. But, IMHO, the double standards of responsibility afforded to 18 years olds in other, potentially much more serious arenas, is bs when they are universally deemed too irresponsible to order a beer or glass of wine at their own wedding reception or at their farewell party before they get shipped to Afghanistan. And if they want that beer, they're going to get it anyway, but in a much less controlled environment.
