I might have thought it would be Austin or Leggett, but Carrington shooting nearly 52% from 3 on higher volume than Blake…If that is sustained above 40 and Austin regresses towards his mean of 33, this will be an even better shooting team than last year. Also, if Lowe gets going (last 2 games 50 percent), so hopefully somewhere between 30-35 for year.

Capel admitted in one of his recent pressers that a lot of his previous failures came from not recruiting shooters, and that was a point of emphasis. Contrary to popular belief, it is VERY hard to “coach” shooting at the college age level and beyond, so you got to find some of that in recruiting (shooting habits are formed extremely early).

It also isn’t rocket science in this regard- if you can’t shoot, you become incredibly one dimensional. Having a bevy of three point options 1-5 is a potential nightmare for opponents (minus Fede, and hopefully Austin finds his stroke to a 30%+ clip).

Right now Pitt is 11th in the country in 3PM per game. And hopefully their 288th ranked free throw shooting will change as time goes on.

He was honest and said they couldn't recruit shooters. He said like that was just reality.
