What exactly this proves.

Maybe that we Pitt fans are insane? Maybe that hey, he committed this morning and no one there really cares all that much because hes just another obscure player they will get behind and learn his name in a few years IF he succeeds

But I went to the ND rivals site which seems about as active as this one.

13 posts about Jeter commitment.
here? I stopped when I hit 400, and those are just the direct ones, not counting all the other fallout threads.

And on one hand, I don't even think its bad. We know him, we been following him for months even years, we give a ##@$%. Them? eh just another egg in the carton. Hope he don't get scrambled like poor bobby down at bama.

-Recruits read these boards and talk to fans a lot. It was one of the reasons Kithcart stayed with Pitt because the fanbaae was like swarming bees talking to him on social media outlets. When you make a recruit feel like a potential big dog on campus, that plays the game of emotion. Nobody at Notre Dame knows who Jeter is. Everybody down in Oakland knows players like Whitehead and Ford. Hometown players that make it in the NFL become even bigger legendary names. Foster who? A 30 for 30 high school has been and a complete nobody with no name recognition from Bama. Players like Whitehead and Ford will get the hometown love for a long. Long time. That's the difference. And those 2 know it when they make the NFL.

There are a number of threads about the Jeter commitment on several ND pay boards.

The idea that nobody at ND knows about Jeter is a completely artificial construct.

He mentioned committing to ND because of their academics and he is a good student from what I hear. What is he going to major in? Also, he is enrolling in January FWIW

Are you lost? Find your way back to the Irish board..

What year did you get your ND degree?

Nd has more fans that did not go to the school than any other school in the country. I have a friend that his mom is a huge nd fan because they are catholic. She has never even visited the campus. Go figure.

Even worse, look at Jeter's twitter account. The people congratulating him are the wpial kids and Reeves who i'm sure he met on Pitt visits. There's a couple ND fans and that's it. I'm also really impressed that Pitt fans didn't turn into a bunch of clowns and trash his twitter account for not selecting Pitt.

If he would have chosen Pitt, that page would have blown up....instead he chose ND and hardly any ND fan cares....but hey, the 3 local white guys are pumped!!

I've had extensive conversations with recruiters for major companies across the country. I've asked the specific question about the value of an education of one school over another and the answers varied. If you're a HS kid looking to get into law, if you can get into an Ivy League school, that would be best. Employers love kids from Harvard, Yale....you get it.

If you want to get into medicine Harvard, Stanford, John Hopkins University kids have a great advantage. So, for specialized areas of study, certain degrees are certainly more impressive and likely to land you a job than others.

The flip side is that for a lot of jobs, recruiters and employers don't care about the prestige of the university you attended. Medical students coming out of Pitt or Vanderbilt may be just as good as kids coming out of Harvard or Stanford.

Maybe a couple employers say "Whoa! Notre Dame!!" Most employers will view Pitt, ND, Michigan, Penn State all the same assuming your transcript is good.

for your first job out of college MAYBE the school matters.
After you have experience where you got your degree is of little to no importance.
The isn't what it used to be.
Employers want and need those who perform and have the experience and references to back up that experience.
Employers can no longer follow the "Old Boy" network, they cant afford to.

Employers like cheap. Only professional degrees seem to carry weight from the school.
