I'm surprised by the apparent lack of 'BB' fans on here??

not following you on that.. For the last time, If we get in, it will have nothing to do with central Arkansas and northern Washington games.. It will be because we won 9 or 10 games in the ACC>.
If we get in, it's because our WHOLE schedule got us in. You think conference play alone is getting Clemson in?

Kiwi, why did you think my response was that bad? I said "everyone is wrong but you" I'd describe that as contrite or dismissive moreso than as someone emotionally falling apart.. Actually I dont' know what contrite means, just wanted to use it.. No one is mad, doubt you and levance are all that upset.. I save my anger for any ESPN 3 - HDMI cable to watch game threads.. now that is anger inducing..
He has been replying to you maturely and logically. You throw "ok everyone is right but you" back in his face as a response. It's almost like you ran out of evidence for your point, so you reverted to grade school tactics. Just seemed childish, but let's just drop it.

I cant go around and around anymore, I am getting dizzy.. im done arguing, Dixon has heard this for over a decade and he don't care.. Continue on with the 2 month pre-season, it works for baseball and hockey, might as well work for college basketball.

Do you honestly believe that the committee is going to say, well, we looked at the OOC for every team but Pitt, for whom we ignored the OOC? If our OOC was bad enough to keep us out, it would keep us out.

It's time to challenge ourselves a bit more, that's all any of us are saying.. Dixon considers pitt a good P5 program? I'd hope so as he should. If so, why does he avoid any competitive games in nov/dec like the plague? if it's because of the reasons some of you think, because he'll be a bubble team and will need that easy 20th win, well then his expectations for his program is very telling..

f*ck it, nothing else to talk about so lets continue.. My point, is beating horrible teams by 53 points doesn't help us in the RPI game or the resume builder game.. I'd venture to say that a 19 win season with a loss to a wvu would have just as much chance as making the tourney as a 20 win team with a 53 point win over southwestern Washington.. And that is worst case scenario, assuming they lose every good OOC game.. I don't think that, I actually think Pitt hoops could win a couple of these games, unlike you and levance who just go ahead and chalk up every OOC competitive game as a loss..

I argue this same thing on the football side.. I don't get fans wanting to see their teams beat garbage FCS programs to find easier way into a bowl game.. My reason is similar, because I think beating Fordham or new Hampshire doesn't mean squat to people who care... I think playing and competing against a top 10 iowa team on the road looks better than beating up Youngstown state at home.. It looks better nationally and it is a whole hell of a lot more entertaining to fans.. That's my point..

On an unrelated note, I refuse to reply to or comment to levance until he quits using emoticons in every one of his posts.. Please relay that message to him for me..
If the Gonzaga game were played to completion... NOBODY would be having this discussion.

Gonzaga and Purdue, both Top 15 teams at the time we played them, would've put us ahead of 75% of NCAA teams as far as having quality opponents in the OOC.

You're doing it again. We never said every challenging OOC game is a loss. The point is, EVERY team plays cupcakes. We at most replace 1 game, maybe two, that's it. We likely won't change the 300+ games (we played 2), because EVERYONE plays those teams. MSU, referenced many times in this discussion, played 5. Three more cupcakes than us. They played more top teams and more total bottom feeders, which means we played more teams in the middle. If we improve the schedule, it will likely come at the expense of some of the middle tier games, not the worst 2. The overall RPI impact of moving a couple middle tier teams to top teams won't appreciably increase your RPI, while creating greater risk for losing. It's an "RPI cost/benefit analysis". If you are extremely talented like Duke, UNC, UK, MSU, you can afford to take more risks IMO.

Nobody answers me this, but how many cupcakes do people think we actually played OOC?

That is a fine opinion to hold. I have never said you are wrong for thinking that way. But when so many other schools DO get a win against a FCS team, you are requiring Pitt to fight an uphill battle. Pitt fans freaked out this year when worse teams got better bowls than us. Imagine what happens when you mandate Pitt to play harder OOC schedules than all of them now too.

If the entire ACC says, "We no longer allow our members to play any FCS teams," I would completely be in favor of that decision. If the entire ACC says, "We now mandate all of our basketball teams to play 3 P5 opponents OOC annually," I would completely be in favor of that decision. That's a level playing field. What SMF and others are advocating is not.

I counted 7 cupcakes on this year's schedule.. I left Duquesne off because they are local, also left off Kent State because I drove to Lexington and saw first hand us lose to them 10+ years ago..

Exactly.

Reasonable. How many cupcakes do a typical high D1 team play?

351 D-1 teams. Western Carolina is exactly the dividing line between top half and bottom half in RPI today, Counting St Joseph, (non D-1) we have 6 BELOW the line and WC right on it. We have only 1 below 300 ( plus St Joe's of course.)

I am fairly confidant that many Pitt basketball ticket holders would come out to see Pitt play a "FB Name" school from the very bottom of a P5 hoops conference rather than see Pitt play a stronger hoops opponent lacking FB name recognition.
Are you seriously saying that if Auburn or Alabama would come to town, that they would draw well just because they are good in football? I'd much rather see Wichita or Creighton.

while the OOC is a pet peeve of mine I'm totally bored with the subject. I just find it hard to believe that anyone who calls themselves a bb fan can justify Pitts OOC sch.and deny that it has any connection to attendance . I don't think the Pete would be full for those games if they let you in for free.

It's not full for top 20 teams either.

The blue backs at the fitz didn't show up for the nonconference games either & the nonconference games were better.

Last Sunday, when Duke was in town a lot of the "loyal" season ticket holders didn't show up either. They sold their tickets to make a few bucks that they really didn't nee to make.

The nonconference schedule...you can love it or hate it...it is no different than going to Heinz field to see Pitt play Villanova or some other cream puff. If you love the team, you show up. If you are more interested in being at the happening place/event, then you go to stub hub & sell your tickets.

It was tempting to put my tickets on stub hub, but a couple of hundred dollars couldn't replace the satisfaction of seeing Duke quit.

Totally agree a few hundred bucks which you'll spend never can replace the memories of a great victory.
I always enjoyed early season mismatches to appreciate the ability of Pitts players ,but Pitt has taken it too far imo. The failure is in the marketing dept in not replacing the older fans as they drop out with innovative plans to get the younger fans ( ZOO ) involved. Add in mediocre teams without a superstar 10 k is about all you can expect.

Not very good. But the point is that people will always make a value judgement on how much their own time is worth. Though actually the price affects that. Astros would have probably gotten more fans if the price was $5.
