Well, there were not 72k in the stadium... USC does not publish turnstile counts. Turnstile number was leaked in error earlier this season as 53k and then quickly edited to be 71k in official box scores.

Regardless, even their inflated season average is less than Heinz full capacity, so the OP point of population variance has validity.
