I’m just speechless at the way the Pitt-Notre Dame game just ended. Pardon my French but you have to be shitting me.
I will have a much more comprehensive look at the end of the season and off-season and what it all means but the way this game ended was absurd.
There is absolutely a discussion to be had about the fact that Pitt allowed the game to come down to that by the way they played. They allowed the game to become a grind. They allowed it to become a low scoring slog. They had silly turnovers and poor execution down the stretch - sound familiar.
All of those things are valid and in some ways Pitt deserved to lose because the Panthers never asserted themselves on the offensive end.
There are definitely some guys on this team who are not good enough. The Twins are a nice story but they should finish their careers at St. Francis.
But for now - the call at the end of the game was atrocious. Just a flat out embarrassment. And the explanation is even worse.
I don’t believe in “swallow the whistle” but you cannot make that call in that situation, especially when it came after time had expired.
Jeff Capel was pissed and should have been. Again, I never put a game on the refs and Pitt did a lot to lose this game. But that was a really bad time for a referee to make a horrific call.
