I have to admit when I first
watched him early in the year,
I thought I was seeing an early
Parker Stewart. Horton was ice
cold from the field, played poor
defense, and had no floor game.

He's our main 3pt threat, 87
attempts. Made 32 for 36%.
That not great but it's decent.
At this level our top threat on
3's hopefully would be 40 %.
BTW, Champ is 36%, X is 31%
and Toney 30%

I do believe his overall game is
better. He's now putting the ball
on the floor and shooting on
the move. His floor game is
better, and he's hustling on
defense. At this point IMO he's
barely an average ACC starting
off guard. What gives me hope
is a pretty steep improvement
curve. I feel he'll keep improving
and will end up what Capel
thought he'd be when he brought
him here.

his game and his 3 pt. shooting.
He's a nice piece for the next couple of years.

He is showing a little more scoring off the dribble than I thought he would. Still not a guy who is going to beat a solid defender straight up, he needs an opening, but but he is showing the ability to identify when he has an opening and take advantage of it.

He could develop into a guy who can score 12-15 points a game if he has other players around him that keep defenses from being able to focus too much on him.

It’s clear that he’s getting a little more comfortable. He’s actually playing better in ACC games with Pitt than he was playing in CAA games with Delaware, which is positive. He’s probably never going to be a lockdown perimeter defender, and he’s not going to be a slasher who can create off the dribble, but he’s been a league-average ACC starter at the 2, which was the reasonable expectation.

If you round up, he is about 40% from 3 in ACC games (25/63).

I agree. The bad start is what got
him the present 36%. Since that
start he's doing better and as you
pointed out it's happening in the
ACC games. There's no reason IMO
that he can't become 40+%, if not
this year then definitely in the
future.
What I really want to see is the rest
of his game improve as well.

When I remember he’s a 3 year player - I feel pretty good. He’s gaining confidence and seems to be improving almost every game.

It's why I truly didn't understand why he basically sat the entire 2nd half against Wake after starting 1-5. He's a streak shooter and our entire team went ice cold for close to 10 minutes. I think it cost us the game.

I said this exact same thing. They went on like a 30-6 run or whatever it was and Horton was never in the game.

I don't remember the exact scenario,
but it's possible that it wasn't only
for going 1-5. Capel wants him to
shoot, so it might be Horton was
doing something else that Capel
didn't like.

He’s very close to proving me wrong about him. Which I am perfectly fine with. Although my only real prediction was he would average 8 PPG and wasn’t the best scorer in the ACC like Capel claimed.

The addition to be able to pat it a few times and hit pull-up jumpers has made his lack of defense acceptable.

He's close to becoming Parker Stewart which is what I kinda thought he'd be.

Horton has a pretty release for sure, but Vader/Steel's comment above makes me laugh. I know it's said in typical hyperbolic fashion, but off the top of my head I'd say that in recent memory: Gibbs, Cam and Parker Stewart have also had some sweet looking strokes from 3. Even JWF wasn't too hard on the eyes from deep...

He's got the best looking release and shot of anyone I can remember at Pitt. The kid just needs experience and confidence, and he's going to be a monster.
Yeah, you can just see that he is going to be able to hit threes at a .400ish rate over time.

Not yet. Stewart was also a really good rebounding guard.
He’s better this year playing in the ACC than Stewart was playing at a low-major last season. No disrespect intended to Stewart in the slightest, but you’d take Horton any day of the week.

Agree on all aspects.

I don’t understand why some people think being relied upon to be the primary scorer on the team versus being a key cog amongst over talent will result in comparable statistics, to be honest.

Lamar Patterson might have the best looking pure jump shot form of anyone I’ve ever seen at Pitt.

It's hard sometimes , after sitting out a year, to get the mojo flowing. I look for him to keep improving as the season goes on.

He’s only a sophomore. And with everyone getting an extra year of eligibility cause of covid Horton is going to make a nice piece to this program going forward
