In all seriousness... I feel better about this team than any Pitt team since 2015

a shooter’s chance. That’s the biggest difference. This team’s got the best collection of shooters in a long while for Pitt. Elliott’s been consistent with his 3, Hinson and Burton are pretty reliable all around. And guys have been feeding Fede pretty good and he converts!! Let’s hope that continues as the level of competition increases. And on that, we’re going to find out real quick based on the upcoming schedule.

I agree. It took him a while but Capel finally figured out the type of player to recruit to win here. We lost the culture, we lost the leadership to teach the younger players how to do it the right way. Hopefully they will do as well as I think they can this year. Hopefully the younger players will learn the lessons and pass on the knowledge to the next class. Hopefully they win enough for Capel to deserve to keep his job so we don't need the complete rebuild again...

I know.... low bar.

But this team has a shooter's chance in most games. A long way from the heights of 2002-2014. But no longer a national embarrassment and potential to finish in the Top 7 or 8 in the ACC if the ball bounces right.

Generally agree with you. Definitely the best since Dixon left although I did feel good about Stallings' first year when they beat Virginia.

There's some legit talent for sure. Even without John, the five of Fede, Blake, Burton, Nelly and Greg appear to be pretty legit. Depth probably isn't what we thought it was with only Nike being capable until we learn is John can figure things out.

But 10-10 in the ACC does not seem unreasonable.

We’re going to go 12-8 and be in a weird spot where we are happy with the progress but extremely frustrated with the Vandy/VCU losses which will keep us off the bubble.

Agreed.
Let's see how it holds up during the ACC grind, but these guys do seem to get it.

I mean… you guys say this but the Covid year team that started the year 8-2 and beat Duke that had Champ, XJ, Toney, Horton, Coulaliby, Hugley, Nike, Femi and Will you guys were all high on as well. Wait til we play cuse and UNC this week and see where we’re at.

Hopefully this years team doesn’t all try and bang the same chick like that team.

Perry Clark certainly felt so. He was a refreshing analyst today. I enjoyed his comments about Hinson and family and his connection to them.
Seriously? I thought he was horrible. An old coach who can only talk about things from the past and no criticisms at all. AMazing how he said both teams would be happy with the score at halftime. There is stepping out on a limb.

12-8 with a win in the ACC tourney should put Pitt on the bubble.

We're going to learn a lot Tuesday night. Syracuse is the kind of middle of the road ACC team we need to beat if we want to have a postseason. It's on the road so we'll be slight underdogs I assume.

After that we get UNC and UVA at home. Hard to see us winning either of those games, but stealing a win against a top-3 ACC team at home would also give us a huge leg up.

Yep, the season hangs in the balance the next 10 days.

Expectations? 1-2. Which keeps them alive for postseason
2-1 = trending way upwards
3-0 = we’re all getting laid merry Christmas and a happy new year

0-3 obviously would be a Debbie downer but don’t expect that.

Here’s a thought

Let us enjoy the wins and this team .
Your rooting for failure is boring

We did also lose by double digits to St Francis PA that year….

Ha. I tried to block that out. Just saying @DT_PITT did declare…

A big difference to me between this team and that one which gives me hope that we can avoid a collapse is that Capel’s had some teams with talent and good wins here (even beating Louisville and FSU in Year 1) but they were always because of individual performances… like that first year Trey had 30 in a big win and X and Trey went off before teams realized not to foul them. Champagnie had a huge game against Duke to pretty much win that one.

Of course, individual performances are a big part of basketball so maybe I’m not making a great point. But it just felt like we won when somebody went off… but we never necessarily had the Duke type recruits/players to count on say Jayson Tatum going off any night you needed him to. So we’d beat Duke but then go on the road to like Boston College and couldn’t get a “team win”.

Whereas this team might not even have the pure talent of some of his other teams here but they actually fit with each other and can be greater than the individual parts. And have experience. Which can win in a bad league.

Very solid point. Will be exciting to see how it shapes up tuesday and beyond

That basically is our entire
backcourt. I'm not counting
Santos because he has been
a non-factor.
Replacing those four with
their experience, decent
but not elite talent, and
leadership, plus their
cohesiveness, is going to
be a major challenge for
this staff.
Can’t replace their experience but already have 3 replacements in Carrington, Lowe and Johnson.

This team is enjoyable; they share the ball, play hard and have shown up since the Michigan game. Also took care of business in every buy game. Here’s hoping it continues this week and into the future. I’ll be there cheering Tuesday!!!
There was a stretch there yesterday, I think it was 1st half, where 3 or 4 different Pitt players fed Fede for bunnies under the basket in successive possessions. And they all were pumped for doing it. thought, wow now that is nice to see.

Judah Mintz would've been prefect for this Pitt team after watching him recently.
God I hope we beat Cuse.
I'll be interested to see who plays D on who with the guards

This is a great point. This team is probably the first team Capel has had that has a legit 1, and a legit 5, as well as having at least to this point, the most consistent 3 pt. shooting 2. We also have a legit strong 4, who can also go outside. We also have two guards who can play the one or two, and are big enough and strong enough to defend against a bigger player. Add in the experience, and you have a pretty complete team. Capel deserves some credit for getting them to play together unselfishly. If they defend hard and put in the effort on the boards each nite this team can absolutely finish over 500 in the ACC. I guess we will see how it plays out very soon.
