Pitt is now the most played opponent for Syracuse (well tied with PSU as SU's most played opponent until next season).

That makes 3 different schools for whom Pitt is the most played opponent with no danger in losing that status over the next 50+ years:

WVU: 104
PSU: 96
Syracuse: 71

How many other schools out there in major college football have that many schools for whom they serve as their most played opponent? I don't know the answer to that.

I think we are up there for Notre Dame as well. I recall being their 4th most played rival about a decade ago when I was there for a game.

Hail to Pitt!

We are ND's 5th most played rival after Navy, Purdue, USC, and Michigan State.

Pitt is also the third most played opponent for Miami (after FSU and Florida) at 34 games marking it the most played opponent for UM outside the state of Florida. In 4 more seasons after this one, Miami is on track to move into Pitt's fifth most played opponent behind Notre Dame.

Pitt's most played opponents are:
WVU 104
PSU 96
Syracuse 71
Notre Dame 69
Navy 39
Temple 36
Miami (FL) 34
W&J 33
BC 30
Rutgers 30
Carnegie Tech 30

We have played UVA 120 times. The South's Oldest Rivalry is tied for 2nd most all time, of D1 schools.

We have played Wake 105 times and MooU 104 times. But Wake has played MooU 108 times.

We have played Dook 98 times, which is the most Dook has played anyone.

I know back in the early years that W&J and Carnegie Tech/Mellon played big time ball, but I never realized how many years they played Pitt.
