Interesting how many recruits mention...

how playing at Heinz and sharing facilities with the Steelers is a big plus in recruiting. As opposed to how many fans insist that an on campus stadium is the answer to our problems.
Are you talking about how "many recruits" who sign with us or are highly considering Pitt and are being interviewed by Pitt reporters? Or are you talking about the kids we offer and don't sign with us and their interviews with our competition's reporters?

It seems to be a very common comment after perspective recruits first visit. That would encompass all of the above.

Practice with the AFC North Champions every day of the year? Or practice in the backwoods with no chance to see how to be a pro just like in WV & PEDU

south side complex is an advantage, Heinz is a negative.. unfortunately, you cant have one without the other..

Why couldn't Pitt practice at the Southside complex and play games at an on campus stadium???

The Southside facility is there and isn't going anywhere even if an on campus stadium is constructed?

When following recruiting it is important to follow what a recruit DOES, not what a recruit SAYS. If it was actually a "big plus" then we would be winning a lot more recruiting battles verse teams who don't share facilities with NFL teams. In reality it is a "big negative" and something that HCPN and staff constantly have to fight an uphill battle against.

The recruits that choose Pitt are not a representative sample size. Of course guys that sign here are more likely to view Heinz as a good thing. If they cared about playing on-campus, they would have gone somewhere else.

As others have mentioned, we would need to hear from recruits who didn't choose Pitt to get their thoughts. Unfortunately, kids rarely comment on the schools they didn't choose.

If you were bald and overweight, you might find a woman who is attracted to bald overweight men. They are out there! But your wife liking your receding hairline and beer gut would not make them generally positive traits for attracting women.

I don’t know why would they? don’t you think they’d want to practice on their own field

The shared practice facility with the Steelers definitely has some cache with prospects. Playing in their stadium downtown probably not as much.

Does anybody know with certainty how many P5 programs with on campus stadiums actually practice on their game field on a regular basis?

I can’t imagine many. all the schools have little practice fields Or covered artificial fields like we have on south side. I was on Oklahoma’s campus and They has outside practice fields.

I can’t imagine any football teams with the Grassfield practicing and it probably is the same even with teams with artificial turf stadiums

I can’t think of a major program that doesn’t have indoor practice fields. As for Oklahoma, they already had top notch facilities and a beautiful state of the art indoor practice complex, but they are flush with $$$ and are moving into brand new football facilities that are just sick. This is happening at schools all over the country.. Google it up. The rich get richer.

You think Heinz sells the program now? Wait till we install tarps!
Anyone who has ever dealt with tarps know how expensive they can be for the size of an upper deck, let alone 2!!! Plus some fans want logos and art plastered all over them too? That will run the athletic department no less than $100,000. Ya, not happening. Lets just see our Panthers whoop some UCF & PED butt next year with a FULL HOUSE.

Whether we get them or not it makes an impression. That’s a good thing, not a bad thing.

Indoor or just a practice field?
I know Miami doesn't have an indoor practice field, because they are infamous for having to schedule practices around the weather forecast because they have no where to go if it storms. Which is kinda funny.

Teams don't actually practice on the game field.
They have an indoor practice facility, and outdoor fields, leaving the game field for actual real games.
So if an on campus stadium was actually constructed using the Southside facility for practice would be a space saver, and reduce stadium costs.

Absolutely 100% correct.
Why wouldnt Pitt want to practice at the current Southside facility and play games at an on campus stadium?
That would eliminate the cost and space requirements of an indoor and outdoor practice area, plus all of the other facilities already in place and dedicated to Pitt at the Southside location.

Are you thinking the Steelers will boot us even if we paid for its use?

I think there is a bit of both, the sharing of facilities and the idea of playing at an NFL stadium (and a good one) has some appeal, but the overall poor gameday experience when visiting can have an impact today. Ultimately I don't think it is as big of an issue as most fans think, and the places where the gameday experience is extraordinary are also the places where the players are the big men in town. No Pitt player is going to overtake Sid, Ben, AB or before this year Cutch in popularity, whereas playing in Happy Valley or Tuscaloosa allows you to be the star of the town. I think that has more of an impact when talking about the game day experience.

The only people that even whisper this is a negative are the ped state trolls on this site.

This is THE biggest recruiting advantage we have. I mean Darrin Hall having a photo with Leveon Bell, and Shocky meeting AB. Its huge. Flat out.

Both indoor and outdoor practice fields. Hell even most of the MAC has them.

I’m saying google it up and check it out for your own enjoyment because it’s just that badass. I can only imagine the effect that would have on a kid on his recruiting visit.
Google what? What are you talking about? Sharing Heinz field?

No that new Oklahoma football facility. It’s worth a look- Here you go:

I was on that campus about 4 years ago for an engineering event. Run down town, beautiful campus. Had a girl take my pic of me in footbsll stadium in background, she zoomed in and just got my face, no background.

Norman ok is the bizarro Oakland. Too much open land. You got the arena behind campus, a weather facility and nothing but open flat land behind it as far as you can see.
