in major college basketball? Did the UCLA experience ruin him forever?

He is still relatively young

I just read an article not long ago that said he passed on some jobs but didn't say which ones. He did say he'd like to give it one more go.

As far as Pitt taking him back - I guess if Dixon left he wouldn't be the worst hire. Some people here weren't thrilled when he left but I doubt there's any animosity towards him from Pitt.

I don't believe toughness of the players would be an issue with Howland back here, he is the one who originated it.

Don't mind me I am just brainstorming, trying to figure out ways for Pitt to turn this around

Well if you're wishing Pitt acts and fires Dixon I'm afraid I've got some bad news. Ain't happening any time soon. I don't know when his current contract is up but I know it's long enough that the buyout would be prohibitive.

of course they can't fire Dixon, with his 300 wins it will never happen. And of course like Johnny Majors Part II there is no guarantee a Howland Part II would be successful.

Oh well just a thought

2 or 3 more years with no improvement of course they could fire Dixon. I don't expect that to be the case but at some point they'd have to make a move 300 wins or otherwise.

And I doubt a Howland part II could be anywhere near as disastrous as Major's second act.

My guess is if it ever came to that they'd go in an entirely different direction but who knows.

UNLV should fire its coach and hire Howland.

If Barnes gets gassed I wonder if Texas would want Howland? I doubt it.

Howland wouldn't come back to Pitt if Dixon was fired-they are good friends.

god...barnes was possibly a Baylor meltdown away from getting canned. They have put it together lately but he is still awful.

Ben Howland's future was a topic on local Las Vegas radio today. He gave a recent interview in which he mentioned how he turned down multiple job opportunities last year and how that wouldn't be happening in the future. He also talked about how much admiration he had for Stew Morrills's accomplishments and how hard it would be to replace him. Howland's wife is from Logan, Utah, so there was obviously discussion about Howland considering the Utah St position. It seems small time for him, but maybe his wife would be that much of an influence.

Howland seems to spend a lot of time in Las Vegas, and the locals here would love to jettison Dave Rice. Howland would be a natural for UNLV. With 2 of the best high school/prep schools in the country right down the street he would be able to bring in even more talent than Rice does, with much better results.

If Howland doesn't resurface somewhere in the offseason I suspect there is a real good chance he will be at UNLV after next season.

Contract buyout costs, maybe??

I'd guess he's waiting for a plum job??

@GoodmanESPN: The last time DePaul opened, there was some speculation that Ben Howland might have some interest. Look for him to try and get in mix.
