Vuckovcan's take regarding the NIT snub

If you're saying it's just pay money and they'll play as long as they feel like it F that, become D3

Interesting read with equally polarizing comments by his readers. My take? I've been following Pitt basketball since I enrolled @ Pitt in 1970. During the half-century+ as a fan, I have come to realize that Pitt is certainly not a "blue blood" program, and while there have been glimpses of greatness, our achievements in this sport are minimal. Better than many, but not great

And while the "legality" of paying players to play has changed, Pitt has never been able to "buy" the best players or coach(es). We fell into Howland and Dixon, and their players exceeded beyond any generation of Pitt BB players in my fan lifetime. The group of players Pitt had during the Paul Evans years were arguably the best/most talented, but Evans couldn't coach his way out of an open locker door

Maybe, in hindsight, Pitt should've accepted the NIT bid last year, when they had the talent to win the damn thing or at the very least, go deep into the tournament to provide guys like Leggett, Lowe, Austin, and the Twins a taste of post-season/tournament play. As Vuk points out, these kids are paid to play and if given the opportunity, they should. Pitt is not, in my loyal and honest opinion, that good that they can turn down any post-season event. In basketball or football. Even if it's the "Hormel Canned Meat Bowl" game played in Laramie, WY, and certainly not the NIT regardless of how meaningful or meaningless it's become

does anyone really care about this clown?

I'll say what I want, you're the self-proclaimed know it all, dazzle us with your genius

You absolutely can say what you want. It's just not often that people are so ready to admit that their own opinion is completely uninformed. And that they have no desire to actually learn.

I admitted I made a mistake; I confuses NEC with America East. WTF more do you want? I doubt you'd ever admit being wrong. Even when you are, but I suppose you think you're never wrong.

It's kind of funny that you posted this about admitting that you were wrong in the wrong thread.

I just said the other day in one of the other threads that I thought hiring Suzie McConnell-Serio was a good move and it certainly was not. I have no problem admitting when I'm wrong. Another one of the differences between us is that you have a lot more to admit to than I do. Because you are proud of the fact that you give uninformed opinions.

I'm not going to google every possibility before I post on a recreational message board, so like Musk and DOGE I expect t make mistakes.

No one is saying that you need to google anything. Heck, no one is even saying that you need to have an informed opinion. But you have to realize that when you spout straight nonsense, basic stuff that is simply factually incorrect like not knowing that a team changed conferences 23 years ago, that people are going to point that out.

If you don't want people pointing out that you are spouting uninformed opinions, the solution is to stop spouting uninformed opinions.

Or get thicker skin.

The people paying the money then should stipulate that you have to play as many games as the team demands and have some sort of penalty for leaving early. This is why it's insane to donate to this, they get your money and hove no obligation beyond their own personal interests.
They can’t
They are paid only for their name , image, and likeness - not their play

What do you think NIL stands for ?!?

I go back to the play / not play NIT debate.

Why play if the guys wont be here next year? Im sure Capel had an inkling of who is leaving....or who he wants to run off.

Every school will now make EVERY decision with a cost / benefit analysis in mind. In this case, any and all expenses for a crap post season could be funneled into a big that can actually control the glass.

Exactly. NIT expenses are covered by the NCAA, but I don't think that's the case for the CBI (which I think will be dead or some sort of low-low-major tournament in a couple years if the College Basketball Crown lasts), and does anyone think the team will get any of the NIL pool at the CBC?

Even if they do have all expenses covered, the opportunity cost is way too high to waste time on a team that is just counting the days until it can disband.

the fake outrage from the media in Pitt skipping the Not Important Tournament is on brand for them
