It seems to be accepted gospel here that Jason sucks ,is incompetent and the players hate him. Is this assessment accurate ? If so , please provide context . We cannot hear him on the bench as we are across the way .

It’s funny how everyone’s knows that Jason C is a horrible coach , but how in the world does any outsider have a clue . Just like all the expert coaches , I mean message board posters who know that a staff that consists of all former college HC doesn’t know how to develop or game plan but they do . Just sayin !

I knew none of those guys had anything close to an impressive record, but didn’t realize it was quite that bad.
Doesn’t matter if any of these guys are good or bad. There’s one guy that hired them all and the performance/results of the program fall squarely on his shoulders.

Because someone hasn’t been successful as a HC doesn’t mean that they don’t possess bb knowledge . Hell , you know everything in regards to bb , whats your record at the collegiate level as a HC ?
As a staff they’ve been unsuccessful, but putting the blame on one guy whom you have no idea what he’s responsible for is irresponsible.
I’m not the one with a 3.5 million dollar salary and a million dollar assistant budget.

Great call. As assistants one is loved and just about universally lauded and the other is Jason Capel.
The results here speak for themselves. The entire lot of them are bums. A quartet of suck. And it all rests heaviest on Jeff’s shoulders.
Jeff Capel is 51-69 as the HC at Pitt. There isn’t a winner in bunch on our coaching staff.
What you don’t get is that I’m not defending JC or his staff . As a collective group they’ve failed miserably to bring winning bb to Pitt for 4 yrs now . You or none of these other so called experts have any clue what guys on the staff are doing good jobs or who really sucks . You have no idea what they’ve tried to do in practice that they can’t do in games because the players can’t execute it . You want to say as a staff they’ve failed I’m with you , you want to say as a HC JC hasn't been successful at Pitt I’m with you , but you have no clue how good of a job any of the assistants are doing .
Come on, if you’re going to throw out examples, there’s a bunch of Pitt guys to use. Foge probably tops the list.
You have a clue by seeing who they have landed, who they have developed, who they have retained and who they have lost out on related to their peers.

If Wikipedia is correct Jason Capel was out of coaching for 4 years until getting this job. Anyone happen to know if that was voluntary? Because if not that says quite a bit. And none of it’s good.
It was not voluntary. No one would hire him because he stabbed the APP state head coach in the back to get the head job there.
I believe he was doing analyst work on ESPN during that period. Low level games
mostly as I recall.

It's a #'s/results based business and if Milan can't get recruits, than your worth isn't worth all that much. That is funny about Jason and the higher rated recruits - go figured haha.
Changes (emphasis on the plural) need to happen and if Capel doesn't see this, he's not worth a damn and just wants the $$$ from Pitt and doesn't care about his reputation or winning.

I would recommend Capel make a few changes for specific reasons. I think if anything they would benefit from having an older bench coach who wasn't interested in becoming a head coach who could run the rotations and make better in game decisions than whoever is doing it now. I also thinking its time for his brother to move on because that creates weird power dynamics with the players and other assistant coaches. It would be one thing if they were winning but they aren't.

Another example is Tim Grgurich. Failed as a HC here but became one of the most respected assistant coaches in the NBA.
If you watch some of those old UNLV games, Tim would talk to the team in the time-outs and Tark would sit there chewing on his towel. Don't get me wrong, I am sure Jerry ran the program, but Grugrich handled the game day X and O stuff all the way.
I mean if you are Brown and O'Toole, aren't you trying to land somewhere else for next season anyway instead of going through a lame duck year?
