Deleted the Instagram commitment post and moved high schools. Heard some rumblings but nothing concrete unless I missed it?

Don't think you missed anything.

As with most cases in recruiting, I'd surmise that the people who NEED to know (the principals involved), DO know. Of course, like with any verbal commitment, things can always change.

We'll just have to follow the signs as to what Pitt is doing on the recruiting trail in terms of offers and possible other commitments w/r/t the available number of scholarships. No one can sign a binding LOI until the Nov. 2020 early basketball signing period.

This is always the gamble when getting such a young very highly regarded commtt.

And that is if he re-classes.

Better to happen now than a year from now. I'm confident Capel will get a 3-year type player that wants to be here. He probably shouldn't waste time recruiting these type of players until the program proves itself on the court.

The Montverde move isn’t one you make when you’re 100% committed. They’re a blue blood factory and Boyle gets off on being the Calipari of HS hoops. The “he went there to get better” narrative sounds nice and all, but the main reason you go to a school like that is to get major league eye balls on your game, whether that’s blue blood programs or the G League.

For the most part, you can’t fault Capel. If you don’t pursue a big time talent with local ties, you’re negligent as a program. If that kid wants to commit, even 2 years early, what are you supposed to say? Unfortunately this is a kick in the teeth for a program that can ill afford any more. They were absolutely using this kid as the centerpiece of their plans, so they’re going to need a new pitch

Is the kid looking for a bag of cash? Playing for Coach Capel would be a dream of most players.....we will see
These are among the dumbest least informed posts of all time.

1. if he was just looking for a bag it would’ve gotten done and he’d still be committed to Pitt.
2. Playing for Roy Williams or for Kansas are ACTUAL dreams of most players.

We are in the middle of a world pandemic. It is tough for adults to navigate right now let alone a teenager. Hopefully he still decides to come to Pitt, but if not then best of luck to him.

Of course. This is very bad. This kid obviously isn't coming. This really sucks.

I’m aware. Someone’s been cheerleading about our momentum for a while now. I’ll be waiting for results. And this certainly isn’t a good one but I’m not at all surprised. As someone else said you can’t decline the commitment, but never thought you could rely on it either no matter what the family said at the time. Too far out.

Why would anyone believe that just because some kid said he was coming to Pitt meant he was coming to Pitt unless he signed a LOI on the spot? These verbal commitments are meaningless. And this kid will go where he can get the best chance of getting to the NBA and getting a payday, if he's that good. That's probably not Pitt and it shouldn't surprise anyone.

Show me the signed LOI and then I'll start to get excited. Even then.....these kids have no sense of commitment or honoring anything besides themselves. To them, it's all about them.

Yea, I posted when he committed we've never landed a highly ranked sophomore that committed to us. We're like 0 for 5 now.

Rowan
Heron
Pryor
Hood-Schifino
I'm forgetting 1 or 2.
I was going to ask has any recruit ever decommitted and then committed back to their 1st committed school?

The good news for Pitt is that most (all?) of Pitt's historical hoops decommits haven't been very successful where they ultimately landed and didn't really hurt Pitt's program.

For this kids own sake I hope that isn't a Pitt "curse" that befalls him. I wish him well.

Maverick Rowan averaged 12.5 at NC State. Very solid. Terrelle Pryor was 10474839-4 as a starter at OSU.

Not that big of a deal. Would we like to have him, absolutely but we'll just find someone else that wants to be at Pitt
Ahhh the old local top 50 kid doesn’t wanna come to Pitt isn’t a big deal. This is usually reserved for the football board.

In a vacuum, one kid who doesn’t want to come to Pitt IS NOT a big deal. This is the 3rd local top 100 kid lately who didn’t want to come to Pitt. And this kid was supposed to be Pitt’s biggest recruiter for the next 2 years’ convincing other top players to play at Pitt. It’s not concerning that he was instantly convinced otherwise... within the span of like 3 weeks?

This is meaningless unless he signed an LOI, which he didn't. This is the cesspool that is college sports now, especially basketball.

No
not really
What do you suggest we should do in response ?

lose sleep and anxiety ? Demand another coaching change ?

The thing I don't understand is he was already a Top 25/50 recruit when he committed who had to realize he would be on the target of bluebloods. Plus his mom said all those great things about Capel, this is one of the most bizarre decommitments.

Rowan - Adidas
Heron - Slice left
Pryor- football

JHS - Top 25 kid who didn't realize it???

You say we should be concerned-
So I’ll say -
Why ?
What good does it do?
None of us have any impact .
I certainly don’t want coaching churn .

I definitely don't want more coaching turnover, I just reserve the right to be a concerned optimist where before I was pure optimist. Our incoming class looks solid, I just am paranoid that $$$ is beating us in the game.

Selling the top rated kids on Pitt in the best of times was a hard sell .

If or when JC turns Pitt into a competitive team that makes a solid run in the tournament is when these kids will seriously consider Pitt .

The only thing Pitt had going for itself was and still is the local connection . The problem is there’s better places to go .

The question is why would any sophomore with his upside ever commit to a losing program ? The kid doesn’t even live in the area .

Bottom line ....early commitments are nice things on to discuss on message boards. , but means squat until their signature is on the dotted line .

Correct. The commitment from this kid was never a commitment. He didn't sign his name on an LOI so anything he said about a Pitt commitment is just talk and empty.

I think Archie Miller committed early too, but I can’t recall how early. But then he ended up going to NC State.
