If Nate Peterman was penciled in as Pitt's starting quarterback after the Panthers' win at Akron a week ago, the coaches might be switching to a Sharpie.
Fresh off playing the entire second half at Akron, Peterman, a redshirt junior transfer from Tennessee, started the loss at Iowa Saturday night and was Pitt's quarterback for eight of the team's 10 offensive drives.
The results weren't always pretty, but Peterman seemed to establish himself over the course of the game, which saw him lead a game-tying drive in the fourth quarter. Pat Narduzzi wouldn't commit to a future starter in his post-game press conference, but the writing seems to be on the wall.
"We're going to evaluate the tape and see where we go from there," Narduzzi said Saturday night. "I don't want to say - I just know Chad (Voytik) came out in the first series and went three-and-out. I can't remember what happened in the second series, but we just didn't move the ball. At least with Nathan in the game early, we did move the ball down the field. We didn't convert, but we did get some first downs.
"And I think he kind of settled in as the game went on and didn't make any more mistakes against a good defense; Iowa's got a good football team and a very good defense. They play some real good coverage, and I thought he did a really good job of finding guys."
