It’s 8:26 EST and the game still hasn’t …“gotten away from PITT “….,

Just checking in … PITT still good 👍
I feel like people are being a little too hard on Bonner. It wasn’t that off base of a comment at that time. Pitt only made 2 or 3 FGs in the first 9 or 10 minutes of the 2nd half and UNC did seem to be taking control of the game. Thankfully, Nelly hit those big 3s and quieted the crowd.

Bonner has done dozens of Pitt games since Pitt came into the ACC and has always been fair to the Panthers.

I watched the game at a watering hole so I didn’t hear the announcers during the game. But I re-watched it this morning and it’s obvious that Bonner did zero homework on Pitt. His lack of preparation is unprofessional.

Two examples:

In discussing Pitt’s tournament resume he commented on their Quad 4 loss as if it were from some school in the low majors. It’s FSU! And to make it worse, he’d just been talking about FSU’s low NET in reference to an upcoming game against one of his other Tobacco Road man-crush teams.

At one point he announces that one of the twins substituted for the other. Nope, never. Thirty seconds of prep would have told him that Bill plays center and George plays forward.

Amazing, you’re like the 3rd poster if not more getting on Bonner about that comment.

Can’t say I agree though, the game definitely was starting to get away from Pitt when he said it, primarily because our offense was in a state of disarray and looking worse with each possession, whereas UNC was starting to score on successive possessions. A 4-pt UNC lead sure looked like it could easily turn into a 10 or more point lead.

And then Nellie makes three 3’s in just over a minute. I’ll take that as a very very timely step-up by Nellie as opposed to some way off target comment by Bonner.

I do think Bonner was pretty fair. But I also think his comment was pretty ridiculous considering we were only down by six and have proven over the course of the season to be a team capable of big comebacks.

Pitt should always be favored vs. UNC, that's 3 straight at Capel Hill and 4 of 5 overall, people should just assume now that currently at least that Pitt is the better team.

I think our second half ofthe Duke game jaded him.

Yeah. I think overall he's ok, but all game long he didn't really seem tuned in generally, like he had jet lag or something.

I think Durham and Bonner are pretty good. There was some mention on the game thread of them having an anti-Pitt bias. I don't think so, but Durham probably has a bit of pro-NC bias. I thought his call on Burton getting fouled at the end was remarkably subdued, almost like he was disappointed. Understandable though, his dad was the long-time voice of the Tar Heels.

A Pittsburgh sidenote: Besides Bonner being from Avonworth, Durham's former football partner at Georgia Tech was Rick Strom, the Fox Chapel qb who went to GT.

Yeah, it's not like Carolina was on a 13-2 run or anything like that when he said it.

Wait a second...

Bonner just joins the list of so many that are anti Pitt. Word is the Rooneys also said last night that Pitt was in trouble. I bet the refs said it to each other as well.

I'm not sure, but last night the national anti-Pitt conspirators may have had their monthly meeting, figuring they could watch their officiating pals screw us over.
