It would be pretty hard to sweep UNC and miss the NCAA Tournament

I posted this about the Wake and we missed a big opportunity to distance ourselves from them. Assuming we beat UVa and UNC, they can't make the NCAAT over us so it's one of those double wins. It gives us a Q1 and it essentially doesn't allow UNC to pass us.

I dont know if we beat UNC, I would guess not but I am more confident about this game than I was about Wake or that I am about SMU. UNC may have quit. Another huge Saturday roadie.

It would also be hard to beat UNC twice. My hope is that Duke game folded them for the rest of the season.

I’m not as high on SMU as other. Shut down Boobie Miller, you win.

Side note: he would’ve been a great addition for us this offseason. Not sure he ever considered or just went to the highest bidder. But I’d rather have Fede x2, less Corhen’s $600k salary and allocate that money towards the rest of the starting 5

SMU has been the death of us this year with the VB and football teams both suffering their first losses there. Football obviously never recovered. We owe them but then again we owed Clemson and winning at Wake to no avail.

You going? I was thinking about it.

SMU is a little like WVU in that their talent level isn't very high but they have an excellent coach. Boopie is the only guard who'd play for us but the whole is greater than the sum of their parts. Enfield and Smith from Stanford are the 2 best coaches in the ACC. The ACC needs to make more of these types of hires. So while on paper, SMU doesn't scare you, they play much better than their talent indicates. Also, their 7'2 FR Turkish guy is going to play in the NBA. He's not totally polished yet but he is enough to give us trouble.

I agree on Fede. I'd rather have him than Corhen simply because he rebounds better and is a rim protector. This was a misevaluation by Capel. He was enamored with what Corhen can do offensively and said he thought his low rebounding numbers were due to FSU switching 1 through 5.

I also think we might get Louisville at the end of the season. Might be a classic we desperately need the win and they are playing for a 5/6 seed difference, not much stakes for them.

The problem for the UNC game is they get a week off before we play it. That’s tough. Playing Wake after 2 straight losses is also a tough spot. I think we beat UVA by 15-20 tomorrow and then the UNC game goes down to the final possession

Yea, I sort of think we have a better shot of beating Louisville than SMU for reasons similar to what you stated. Didn't this happen AGAINST us last year? All those bubble teams kept winning as underdogs, sometimes significant underdogs. If it comes down to it and Pitt is playing for it's NCAAT lives and Louisville is playing for a 5 or 6 seed like you said, I think we maybe can get them. SMU, I just don't see a way. They have to just be stone cold because they are too well coached to lose a massive home game like that. UNC has a terrible coach and may have quit. Plus, they aren't any more talented than we are so I feel more confident about that. Not sure the week off helps them.

Actually last year, just like every year, teams on the bubble were losing games on a regular basis. In fact at one point I pointed out that the eight teams that Lunardi and as last four in, first four out, had all lost at least one game in the prior two weeks, and something like six of them had lost at least two games. And then over the next week those eight teams picked up another five or six losses.

Because that's what teams on the bubble do. Every year.

3-1 in a 2 week stretch is really good for a bubble team

Exactly. Which is why last year we were NOT the victim of all the bubble teams winning as double digit underdogs on any sort of real level.

The bubble teams last year were thoroughly mediocre, just like they are every year. For example, Virginia made the tournament. Mediocrity personified.
